Job Description - Strategic Operations Manager

If so, an exciting opportunity has become available to join our Medical Affairs Department as Strategic Operations Manager in the Cardio-renal and Alzheimer’s Diseases unit.

 

THE DEPARTMENT
Medical Affairs is part of the Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) department at Novo Nordisk Canada, which is one of the most diverse and collaborative groups within the organization. From health-care-provider interactions and developing and implementing regulatory strategies with Health Canada to providing medical education and collecting data to support evidence and new product development, CMR is involved. 

 

THE POSITION

As a Strategic Operations Manager in the Cardio-renal and Alzheimer’s Diseases unit, you will take on a pivotal role by supporting the development of Medical Affairs strategies within the respective therapy areas. You will be leading the identification of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and associated engagement strategy and planning, the Medical Education strategy and execution, the collection, analysis and reporting on medical insights and the conduction of therapy area landscape research when relevant. You will also be the anchor for our engagement with physician professional associations. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

STRATEGIC PROJECTS 

  • Leads the annual planning process for selected therapeutic areas for strategic operations projects.
  • As relevant, leads the new therapeutic area planning including mapping KOLs, and carrying out landscape research
  • Carries out strategic mapping and projects associated with KOLs, and professional associations and other stakeholders within relevant therapeutic area(s) 
  • Leads the Individual Engagement Planning process including gathering cross-functional input, and the development of aligned plans 
  • Manages relationships with physician professional association 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT 

  • Works closely with Director, Medical Affairs to build depth of understanding of the strategic priorities of the unit and fulfils projects related to these goals
  • Works cross-functionally with Marketing, Patient Access and Public Affairs to ensure alignment of plans and that the emerging needs of the affiliate are met
  • Communicates project updates to ensure all participants are fully aware of their tasks, timelines, and responsibilities
  • Manages budget for own projects including timely follow up with vendor, finance department etc. and supports Director, Medical Affairs in tracking overall Unit budget

MEDICAL EDUCATION

  • Provides input into the annual educational needs assessment
  • Creates and manages annual medical education plan for respective therapy area(s)
  • Collaborates with Medical Operation Manager to identify optimal congress presence based on Medical Affairs strategy 
  • Liaises with legal and regulatory partners to ensure compliance with the IMC code, BE

INSIGHTS FOR STRATEGY

  • Leads process to collect and report on medical insights generated through Medical Affairs activities
  • Champions the identification of Insights and leads continuous improvement efforts for field and head office
  • Leads evolution of reporting capabilities including identification and implementation of new tools, and processes in close collaboration with Medical Operations team

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a head office-based role. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Certifications:
    • University degree, advanced degree an asset (scientific or MBA preferred)
    • Bilingualism in English and French an asset
    • PMP or Six Sigma designation an asset
  • Work Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or related healthcare industry, preferably in Medical Affairs
    • Strong project management skills and experience in managing cross-functional and complex projects
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to work in a matrix structure, taking into account multiple stakeholders’ needs
    • Sets strategy and direction: Takes initiative to ensure individual goals, plans and actions are aligned with manager, team, function and corporate strategic imperatives
    • Manages business complexity: Acts as a positive, flexible, results oriented member in the face of change and business complexity
    • Drives performance: Consistently meets or exceeds performance and behavioural expectations; works effectively and efficiently (independently and with others) to meet deadlines, commitments and objectives
    • Shares information and works effectively with all colleagues and customers (internal, external, outside of function) striving for the best ways to collaborate and accomplish shared objectives
    • Strong communication skills; oral, written, formal presentations to senior management and top KOLs in the field
