Summer Student Patient Care Assistant

The Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital is an 18 bed facility located in beautiful, rural Northwestern Ontario. Our catchment area includes the Municipalities of Red Lake and Ear Falls and Wabauskang First Nation. Our Hospital offers 24 hour emergency care, acute & chronic care, obstetrics, oncology, diagnostic services, rehabilitation, and a variety of day clinics. The community of Red Lake is home to approximately 5000 residents. The primary industries include mining, tourism, and forestry. Red Lake is accessible by road or by air. The town is approximately a 3 hour drive from Kenora and a five hour drive from Winnipeg (six hours from Thunder Bay).

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be currently enrolled and in good standing in a post-secondary Nursing program (RN or RPN). Must
have intention to return to the program.
2. Experience in multiple areas of nursing care is preferred.
3. Current CPR.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal form.
5. Must have excellent time management skills and be able to work with minimal supervision.
6. Must know and practice professional ethics, particularly in regard to confidentiality.
7. Must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy when interacting with patients and other staff members.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse, the Student Patient Care
Assistant (PCA) assists in providing a range of healthcare services, including the assessment, planning,
implementation and evaluation of patient care, on an ongoing basis
• The PCA participates in a team-oriented approach to patient care, within the facility, and may assist with
care in specialized areas, i.e.; OBS, or SDC, as needed.
