Job Description - Upper River Valley Registered Nurse Class A

JOB PURPOSE

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality safe patient care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and families in the Operating Room. Although primarily assigned to the Operating Room, may be assigned to Post Anaesthetic Care Unit and Day Surgery as required. Performs other duties for efficient operation of unit as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active registration with NANB.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Minimum 1 year recent (within past 5 years) operating room experience or successful completion within last 5 years of an approved OR course.
  • If no one meets the qualifications, top applicant must successfully complete PeriOp 101 course.
  • Demonstrated assessment skills and ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities and complex patient care needs.
  • Demonstrated teaching, communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Good work record and ability to attend work on a regular basis. Ability to report to work while on call within 20 minutes.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge as well as adhere to and promote the mission, vision, values, philosophy, objective goals, policies and procedures of Horizon and the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards.
  • Ability to perform duties within the RN scope of practice in accordance with ORNAC Standards.
  • Assist the Department of Anesthesia with all three phases of anesthesia: Induction, Maintenance and Emergence.
  • Demonstrative initiative and good judgement.
  • Patient safety is a critical aspect of quality healthcare.
