Job Description - Vice-President, Clinical Quality & Safety

The salary range for this position is CAD $116.25/Hr. - CAD $174.38/Hr.

Come work as the Vice-President, Clinical Quality & Safety with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)! Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Vice President, Clinical Quality & Safety (VP) works collaboratively in setting the organization’s strategy and direction for clinical services in the areas of quality and patient safety and will lead the transformation of VCH’s quality initiatives from a focus on assurance and accreditation to a proactive approach centered around continuous quality improvement (CQI). Overseeing a portfolio that includes multiple programs, a $14m budget, and over 80 team members, this role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance the overall quality of patient care, operational efficiency, and organizational effectiveness throughout the organization.

Accountable for establishing sustainable, innovative, and integrated quality management systems, the VP fosters a culture of CQI and knowledge translation throughout VCH, championing transformational quality improvement initiatives. A member of the Senior Executive Team, they provide leadership to various VCH Advisory committees and lead VCH Steering Committees in the areas of Patient Safety, Clinical Quality, and Accreditation.

 

The ideal candidate is an innovative and experienced healthcare executive who has been responsible for leading the quality framework for an organization. A big picture thinker, they can distill a strategic vision down into practical applications and support an organization in fulfilling that vision. Naturally humble and collaborative, the VP brings a proven track record of achieving significant change and implementing creative solutions in the pursuit of clinical quality and safety initiatives that improve the quality of clinical care, health services delivery, and population health. Possessing exceptional analytical and critical reasoning skills, the ideal candidate is comfortable interacting with a wide range of partners and has experience leading and managing professional teams through significant change while simultaneously overseeing strategy development and managing the fiscal resources of a department.

 

Education & Experience

  • Possess a level of education, training and experience equivalent to a medical degree including Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Nurse Practitioner (NP. DNP) and license/registration with the applicable Provincial regulatory body (CPSBC; BCCNM) or eligibility for the same; supplemented with a master’s level preparation in Health, Business Administration, or related health discipline, with fifteen (15) years’ clinical practice and senior leadership experience.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating service delivery systems (including acute, community and primary care) as well as leading major service integration and change, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience evaluating complex healthcare systems, and building innovative, sustainable, quality services to support organizational strategy and drive key organizational initiatives.
  • Certification in a recognized quality improvement program (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, CPHQ, etc.) is preferred.

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving measurable improvements in clinical outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Possesses comprehensive expertise in quality and safety theory and experience in the application into program strategy and direction.
  • Strong understanding of relevant accreditation standards, provincial legislation, health statutes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the creation of an organizational vision and leading programs and teams both operationally and strategically.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structures and leadership roles to support patient ‐ centeredness frameworks.
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external partners to develop, manage, and evaluate programs and services considering patient/client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legislative policy development and processes of various levels of government to ensure well-informed decision-making.
  • Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation to develop effective strategies and ensure the attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources of assigned programs/services in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization.
  • Continuously seeks to develop and improve service delivery standards and practices.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
