The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to ensure that all exploration programs operate within the boundaries established by the applicable regulatory requirements and legislation. This will include tracking changes in the legislation, facilitating project risk assessments and work planning, and training. The OHS Advisor will also lead incident investigations, analyze trends in the key performance indicators manage reporting.

The HSE Advisor will:

  • Oversee all HSEC programs for Vale's North American Exploration Department (DIPM).
  • Ensure operational and procedural compliance with the Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations and Codes.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to management on safety, health and environment issues
  • Design and run Emergency Response Drills. Identify any gaps and ensure resources are made available for the protection of the workers.
  • Develop safe work procedures based on needs identified through on-going risk assessments.
  • Lead risk assessment workshops for all projects at their inception.
  • Ensure risks are managed based on risk assessment outcomes, assessing the exposure, managing the risks and monitoring the effectiveness of controls.
  • Identify, develop and implement training programs for Vale Exploration North America
  • Complete contractor prequalification and screening, monitor contractors Health and Safety programs and complete frequent inspection of contractor worksites.
  • Plan Corporate Safety Initiatives
  • Assist with HSE audits including the implementation of Action Plans to address non-compliance items.
  • Assist with contractor HSE management.

About You

Education :

  • Post Secondary Diploma

Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification preferred.

Skills:

  • Experience in hard rock exploration
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • Excellent communication skills
