Job Description - Director, Perioperative/high Intervention

Position Summary Are you interested in an opportunity to grow professionally within a positive and progressive culture? Northern Health is seeking a champion with significant management and leadership experience to join us at Administration. The Director, Perioperative/High Intervention is a key leadership role in Prince George Health Services. Working in cooperation and collaboration with various peer leaders within the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) and across Northern Health (NH), this position is responsible and accountable for leading specific and delegated responsibilities in planning, delivery and evaluation of programs and services with the goal of ensuring that services are grounded in the principles of patient and family-centered care and delivered and implemented using evidence and innovation to meet the needs of our northern and rural populations. The Director is a key role model for UHNBC's development as a core part of the NH rural and northern network of services that includes integrated primary care and community services, residential care and a network of hospitals. The Director's responsibilities include the integration and coordination of various resources, services and departments to carry out these activities. The Director is a champion for UHNBC's role as a teaching hospital, helping to bring together research, teaching and practice that will strengthen services and establish NH as a center of excellence. Starting salary will be approximately from $141,146 to $176,433 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions. University Hospital Of Northern BC (UHNBC) Is The Largest Acute Care Facility Within The Northern Health Region, And a Hub For Specialized Health Services. It's Also a Teaching Hospital
  • Provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, run by the University of British Columbia and University of Northern British Columbia.
  • Hosts residents in UBC's Family Practice Residency Program
  • Is a key clinical education site for nursing and many health sciences students at UNBC, the College of New Caledonia, BCIT and other institutions.
UHNBC has benefited from nearly $100 million in expansions, renovations and new equipment since 2001:
  • Patient care addition with an expanded emergency room and updated ICU
  • State-of-the-art maternal-child care centre (including a single room neonatal ICU)
  • Facilities to accommodate undergraduate physician training
  • MRI unit

  • Master's Degree in Health Services Administration or a relevant discipline;
  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years experience in progressively senior health care management roles with responsibility for a significant number of staff and financial resources;
  • Or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership and project and program management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.

  • Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
  • Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources.
  • Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a unionized sector.
  • Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Have the courage to raise issues and concerns.
