Job Description - Financial Controller

Job Description Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of the accounting and finance functions for Casino Pickering & Ajax, including the financial close process, financial reporting, budgeting and analysis, ensuring compliance with policy and procedures, and other daily, monthly, and quarterly ad-hoc finance requirements as necessary. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to manage the site audit team and will be required to motivate others and lead by example. Key Accountabilities
  • Coordinates annual budget and forecast process. Manages and accounts for casino expenditures within the scope of established budget/forecast and company policies.
  • Produces and distributes various detailed and consolidated site financial statements and financial reports to senior management, external partners, and business unit managers.
  • Manages the month end process at the site level, including review of month end journal entries;
  • Manages the performance and development of direct reports;
  • Ensuring the financial statements are presented in a true and fair view by ensuring all the transactions are accounted for properly and performing reasonable analysis including but not limited to budget and forecast.
  • Develops and enforces policies, procedures, systems of internal controls and periodic financial reporting formats at the site level that align with corporate direction and are operating effectively to identify and
  • Manages corporate finance function of the site including but not limited to cheque requisitions, account reconciliations etc.
  • Ensures the preparation, completion of balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the asset and liability accounts;
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with OLG and other business partners.
  • Liaises and communicates effectively with senior management and all appropriate business units along with corporate office and external partners and financial service providers;
  • Ensure that you understand the business flow of the different business streams and the associated financial impact to be able to identify and assess accounting issues and apply IFRS criteria and accounting concepts to ensure the proper record of the transaction;
  • Manage other initiatives as required.
Education And Qualifications
  • CPA, CGA, CMA or CA designation, or suitable combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Accounting Manager in a high volume large or medium sized organization;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, MS Word, and MS Excel;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Proven communication skills: verbal, written and interpersonal;
  • Thrives on being a creative problem solver;
  • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative while working independently and remaining focused on an assignment through to delivery;
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and changing environment
