Job Description - Lead , Patient Education

Position Information The Lead 3, Patient Education operates within the Education and Professional Practice department and reports to Program Leader, Patient Education. They play a pivotal role in driving transformative change across the organization, both internally within TOH's new Patient Education Portfolio and externally through strategic partnerships. This position assists the Program Leader to plan, implement, and evaluate the TOH's Patient Education Portfolio under the direction of the Director of Education and Professional Practice. The Lead 3, Patient Education develops, leads, and implements patient education initiatives that aim to establish TOH as a leader in patient education locally, within our community, and beyond. The Lead 3, Patient Education assists with overall stakeholder engagement, workplan development, and project management to ensure that program milestones, objectives, and timelines are met. They act as a resource and liaison between various departments, working groups, and committees to develop, disseminate, evaluate, and integrate patient education across and within a wide variety of platforms and technical systems. They also provide consultative and support services to hospital staff and clinicians working on patient education initiatives. Under the direction of the Program Leader, Patient Education, the incumbent analyzes and manages patient education processes and workflows throughout the organization. The Lead's focus is to establish, manage, and monitor key quality and performance indicators that align the program's strategy with TOH's overarching philosophy. They are also responsible for assisting with formulating program proposals, presentations, and the overall project management of various internal and external patient education initiatives. The Lead 3, Patient Education supports stakeholders, facilitates corporate compliance to the best practices in patient education and health literacy, identifies gaps in service delivery, and provides recommendations for improvements. Temporary position until approximately March 31, 2025. Rotation/Shifts Days, 8 hours shifts. Basic Requirements
  • Masters degree in Nursing, Health or Business Administration, Education, Informatics, or Healthcare Quality;
  • Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated progressive experience in project/program and people management roles;
  • Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated experience coordinating health care education projects/programs;
  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience in a Healthcare organization/professional association (non-profit), private industry;
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislative educational requirements (e.g., AODA, FIPPA, HIPPA, Copyright Act)
  • Knowledge of change management, adult education principles and/or other learning theory;
  • Knowledge of health care environment;
  • Knowledge of project management and quality improvement tools and methodologies
  • Seeks innovation and creative solutions to challenges, thinks ahead, uses logic to anticipate steps and outcomes, recognizes patterns, and encourages this same openness and adaptability in others;
  • Demonstrated ability with healthcare education performance measurement/assessment and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated education project/program management ability;
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, including the ability to lead and facilitate change;
  • Organizational, time management and planning skills;
  • Sound judgment and initiative;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation development and delivery skills;
  • Proficient with spreadsheets/database
  • Navigation/application building and reporting tools;
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Learning management system (e.g., ELM, Moodle, Brightspace) course building and administration;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on high-profile healthcare education projects with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
