The Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking a Physiatrist-Clinician Investigator/Scientist for the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network. The successful candidate will be an academic clinician who represents scholarly achievement and clinical excellence. The successful applicant should be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will be expected to work in the position description of Clinician Investigator or Clinician Scientist. Effective start date is July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network, is seeking a dynamic and compassionate clinician with an outstanding record of accomplishment in clinical research related to stroke rehabilitation. The Stroke Rehabilitation program at Toronto Rehab has received Accreditation Canada’s Distinction in Stroke Services many times. The successful candidate will co-manage inpatients with the stroke rehabilitation unit’s hospitalist, provide physiatric follow-ups to patients after discharge back to the community, and provide outpatient consultation and follow-ups to patients in the Outpatient Stroke Day Hospital program. Toronto Rehab has a vibrant and highly productive research environment. The candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program in their areas of research and will be appointed as a Clinician Investigator or Scientist in the Toronto Rehabilitation Research Institute.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. If residency training was completed in Canada, then candidates must have a Fellowship or be eligible for Fellowship certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. If residency training was completed in the US, then the candidate must have certification or be eligible for certification by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and/or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Completion of advanced training (i.e. Master’s degree) in a research field, plans to complete such advanced training, or a proven track record of research productivity is required to ensure eligibility for a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto. Completion of fellowship in Stroke Rehabilitation in considered an asset.

Estimated remuneration includes base support from a provincial alternative funding program plus fee-for-clinical-service income and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications will be accepted until June 30th, 2024 or until the position is filled.
