Porter

Under general supervision, the porter's responsibilities include: transporting patients to and from various wards and departments; assisting with patient lifts and transfers; assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs; delivery of food wagons and late trays to clinical units; delivery of specimens, equipment, documents and supplies; movement of heavy equipment and supplies; operation of power equipment; responding to all Codes and assisting as required; and other duties as assigned. Functions according to the job description for this position.

• Grade 12 (preferred)
• Oral and written English ability
• Ability to identify and respond to priorities
• Ability to understand and follow directions
• Ability to adjust to handling of highs and lows in providing services
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to operate tow motor, where applicable
• Ability to operate delivery equipment
• Ability to push, pull and lift heavy equipment and stand constantly
• Ability to lift 25 pounds (linen)
• Ability to move patients
