Job Description - REGISTERED CARE AIDE, PERIOPERATIVE

Position Summary

Are you someone who has a real passion for helping others? Follow the path to an exciting career as a Registered Care Aide at Mills Memorial Hospital.

Reporting to the Program Lead, the Perioperative Assistant works as a member of an integrated team to support nursing/technical staff within the Operating Room / OR environment. Provides appropriate basic nursing care and support to patients including assisting in preparing patients for surgical procedures, assisting nursing and technical staff by supporting positioning of patients as required; assisting the patient care team with mobilization, lifting and transferring of patients on/off beds, stretchers and wheelchairs utilizing prescribed safe techniques and lifting practices; ensuring overall equipment and supplies for the operating rooms are available; assisting with the changeover of the operating room (s) between operative procedures. Transports/escorts patients to/from required areas using stretchers and wheelchairs, ensures general equipment and supplies for operating rooms are available, cleans the equipment and supply areas; maintains supplies for the operating room carts and storage areas. Distributes materials, equipment and linen related to the operating rooms as required.

Mills Memorial Hospital is a fully accredited 44-bed Acute Care facility and receives an average of 24,700 ER visits per year. Services include:
• 10-bed Psychiatric unit
• 3 surgical suites
• Three ICU beds
• Extensive Day Care service
• Community Cancer clinic
• Community based programs such as
• Chronic disease management
• Meals on wheels
• Diagnostic and specialist center
• CT and Nuclear Medicine services

Terrace The thriving community of Terrace is northern living at its best. Snow-capped mountains, pristine glacier-fed rivers, lakes and streams all add to the beauty of this community. The main industries in Terrace are communications, transportation and natural resources. The population is approximately 12,700. Qualifications

• Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to organize work.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
