Medical Technologist III Night Shift Supervisor, Multi Functional Lab Shift Workers, Lion’s Gate Hospital Provincial Laboratory Medicine Services North Vancouver, BC What You’ll Do
  • Supervise and coordinate technical activities on night shift for designated laboratory areas by performing duties such as setting priorities, directing workflow, reviewing completed reports, providing input on work performance, troubleshooting work related issues and providing training and orientation in conjunction with the Lead Technologist.
  • Perform routine and stat tests as required in designated areas of the laboratory by performing functions such as following established guidelines and methods, utilizing automated instruments or manual techniques, validating tests performed by checking results, entering patient results into the LIS and referring questionable results to pathologists for direction in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Collect and receive a variety of specimens when required by methods such as reviewing requirements on requisitions, collecting specimens from patients according to established procedures, receiving, labeling and documenting specimens from various areas within the facility and/or patients and following established safety measures to maintain the integrity of the specimen during the collection, preparation, processing, storage and transport stages.
  • Handle any problems with specimens, client, laboratory staff and other hospital staff according to established laboratory guidelines and reports to the Lead Technologist.
  • Call in staff as requested or as emergency workload indicates following the guidelines set out by the Laboratory.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of equipment and routine quality control documentation and monitoring.
  • Assist with day to day statistical information relating to test procedures.
  • Provide bench direction and demonstration of laboratory procedures to medical technology students and provide assessments of those students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications What you bring
  • CSMLS Certification, minimum three years experience as a General Registered Technologist plus one (1) year supervisory experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, medical personnel and related Hospital staff.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with patients and the public.
  • Ability to accept direction and maintain an open and flexible approach to change.
  • Ability to keep abreast of current laboratory procedures and new methodologies through continuing education.
  • Ability to supervise and teach.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate procedures.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
