Job Description - Social Worker MSW - Children's Hospital

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Demonstrated knowledge with the Mental Health Act; Substitute Decision Makers Act and Health Care Consent Act preferred
  • Previous training and/ or experience providing PTSD treatment and working with individuals with a history of trauma
  • Previous experience working with patients with chronic pain and an interdisciplinary medical team
  • Strong interest in trauma work and motivation to complete requisite training
  • Skilled in psychosocial assessment and counselling (including individual, family, group)
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement strategies with patient/family by establishing a therapeutic relationship in concert with proven treatment modalities (e.g. Crisis intervention, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Critical Incident Stress Management, Solution-focused Therapy, etc.)
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical assessment and treatment skills
  • Demonstrated excellent commmunication skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated skill in crisis assessment and intervention
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community services and resources and experience with community networking
  • Demonstrated strength in interpersonal relations, problem solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and interdependently with a diversity of health care team members
  • Demonstrated skill in providing education to health care teams and community resources
  • Demonstrated ability to measure and evaluate practice change outcomes
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis


Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
