FTE: 1.00 – Probationary Contract. Please note that Full Time Continuing Lethbridge School Division Teachers can apply for this position and maintain their Full Time Continuing contract if successful.

The School
Lethbridge Alternative Schools and Programs (LASP) is an umbrella grouping of schools that offer uniquely designed educational services to individuals within Lethbridge School Division and also to students across the Province who are supported within inter-ministerial, institutional programs. The Hospital/Day Program is a regional program housed in the Chinook Regional Hospital. The Child and Youth Mental Health Day Program supports effective coping and day to day functioning for children and youth (ages 6 to 18 years old) in all areas of life, while maintaining and promoting their educational engagement. Subjects
Lethbridge Alternative Schools and Programs (LASP) is looking for an Outreach Teacher to join their team at the Hospital/Day Program location. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing one to one or small group programming in a variety of subjects to complex children and youth from grades 1-12 and must be flexible/responsive in understanding student needs. The teaching role includes the opportunity to support some of the children and youth on the pediatric unit (in a short-term capacity), as well as the opportunity to work with individuals in the AHS Child and Youth Mental Health Day Program, in a longer-term capacity. The successful candidate will lead individual and group learning and will provide assistance in the areas of social skill development, conflict resolution, self-esteem building, self-advocacy, communication, learning strategies, goal setting, problem solving, and self-regulation. Communication with students’ home schools throughout the duration of the program, as well as supports for transition back to the home school setting, are essential to the role. The chosen candidate will work closely with a multi-disciplinary mental health team in creating and sustaining transitional learning/coping strategies for a successful return to the home school. Proficiency with building regulation and coping strategies will be of benefit, and ability to work as a member of a larger, multi-disciplinary team will be essential.
