Job Description - Agency Liaison Volunteer

Agency Liaison Volunteer Location Winnipeg, MB : Job Number: 156 Job Type: Volunteer Close Date: 05/24/2024 Professional Areas: Volunteer Opportunities 2024-25 AGENCY LIAISON VOLUNTEER Are you looking for a great way to get involved in our community and have a meaningful role in the work of United Way Winnipeg? Consider becoming an Agency Liaison Volunteer (ALV). This volunteer role is an excellent opportunity to share your knowledge and skills as well as enhance and develop your leadership, problem solving, and critical analysis skills. United Way Winnipeg (UWW) invests in about 115 agency partners - non-profit, charitable organizations in Winnipeg that are aligned with UWW's focus areas of helping kids be all they can be; moving people from poverty to possibility; and inspiring healthy people and safer neighbourhoods. Together, ALVs play an essential role in getting to know the work of UWW agency partners, assessing the overall health of agency partners, and asking key questions to better understand the impact agency partners have in our community as a result of UWW funding. We are actively looking to welcome multiple Agency Liaison Volunteers to our team, aiming for a diverse representation that mirrors the vibrant tapestry of Winnipeg. This includes but is not limited to Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis), Black Peoples, Peoples of Color, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, those with diverse abilities, and other diverse groups. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds and experiences to apply and contribute their unique perspectives to our mission. As an ALV, you will:
  • Work with United Way's staff to play an essential role in the process of renewing funding agreements,
  • Be assigned to an ALV team for at least two UWW agency partners. Along with other volunteers and UWW staff, you will meet with your assigned agencies at least once per year to review recent progress and activities,
  • Represent your team's funding recommendations at UWW's Community Investment Committee meetings,
  • Be offered networking and learning opportunities throughout the year to help you fulfill the ALV role, and
  • Commit to a minimum of approximately 22 hours/year (6 hours of training and about 16 hours of agency renewal/monitoring work).
The ideal candidate is a dependable team player with a broad background of knowledge, skills, and experience, who is passionate about Winnipeg. A strong communicator, you are open to sharing your gifts with your ALV teams as well as learning from your peers, staff, and UWW agency partners. You are prepared to make a commitment for a minimum of one year (September to June) to this volunteer program. Your skills and experience may include the following:
  • Experience with Winnipeg's non-profit sector, in the capacity of current or former staff, volunteer, program participant, and/or service recipient
  • Finance and accounting
  • Board governance
  • Outcome and evaluation measurement
