Job Description - Cultural Assistant Summer Student

JOB DESCRIPTION

The City of Orillia has is seeking a dynamic Cultural Assistant to join our team in the Recreation and Youth Services Division of the Corporate Services Department for a 3 month term. Reporting directly to the Cultural Coordinator, the Cultural Assistant will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of various cultural events and initiatives aimed at enhancing our community's cultural vibrancy.

 

DUTIES

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of cultural events, programs, and initiatives organized by the municipality, including event setup, tear down and on-site coordination of the Sunday Evening Band Concert series.
  • Assist with grant acquisition efforts by conducting thorough research to identify viable grant opportunities and drafting grant proposals that align with the City’s cultural objectives.
  • Provide administrative support for cultural projects, including the creation of a catalogue for the City’s public art collection.
  • Contribute to the development of cultural programs and initiatives that align with the municipality's strategic goals.
  • Address concerns, accidents, and incidents promptly and appropriately.
  • Address program feedback professionally while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution (currently or for the fall semester).
  • Must be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired.
  • Must be registered in the online candidate inventory.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent research and writing skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Previous experience in event planning, project management, or cultural programming is an asset.
  • Familiarity with museum operations and art curation practices is desirable.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle may be required for travel to off-site events and meetings .

This position is a part-time casual position up to 37.5 hours a week. The selected candidate is required to work every Sunday evening from June-August. The successful candidate will be required to obtain an acceptable and current Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to the employment commencement date.

 

Compensation for this position is $17.20 per hour based on qualifications. Interested applicants are invited to submit an application by June 10, 2024 , at noon.
