Job Description - Director of Finance

The  Canalta Group of Companies is a privately held Canadian owned company focusing on the manufacturing and service of industrial control and measurement equipment, specifically targeting the gas industry and supplying product internationally. We are currently recruiting for a Director of Finance at our head office in  Red Deer, AB

Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Planning

  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives.
  • Develop comprehensive financial and tax strategies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Establish budgeting processes for both operational and capital expenditures, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts to support decision-making and maintain financial stability.

Financial Operations Management

  • Oversee the financial aspects of all expansions and acquisitions, including due diligence and negotiation.
  • Develop and implement accounting systems for job costing, budgeting, divisional analysis, and performance measurement.
  • Ensure accurate and timely issuance of financial information, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Review and approve financial statements for subsidiary companies, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, legal counsel, tax advisors, and other stakeholders.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Develop and maintain a system of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and tax requirements.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the company and industry, ensuring timely compliance and mitigating risk.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage to protect against operational and financial risks.
  • Investigate findings and recommendations from external auditors and regulatory agencies, taking corrective action as needed.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and manage the accounting, human resources, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments.
  • Supervise acquisition due diligence and negotiate acquisitions to support strategic growth objectives.
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive management team, providing financial expertise and insights.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement within the finance and accounting team.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintain in-depth relationships with all members of the management team, providing financial guidance and support.
  • Liaise with Global Affiliates to implement financial strategies and align operational activities.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including banking partners, benefit providers, insurance representatives, and global liability insurers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, preferably in the manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement financial systems and controls.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving results and contributing to organizational growth.
