Position Summary:

As part of Joseph Brant Hospital’s (JBH) efforts to create a more inclusive, safe and respectful place for everyone to work, visit and receive care, we are developing and implementing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Strategy that incorporates inclusive views and perspectives. Embedding DEI in everything we do at JBH is an identified goal in our 2023-26 Strategic Plan. 

Reporting to the Director, People Services, the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Consultant will enable a respectful work environment for all by delivering initiatives that meet our DEI Strategy Objectives. The successful candidate will apply project management methodology with deep knowledge and experience in Diversity Equity and Inclusion programs. Working in partnership with the Human Resources, Employee Health and Organizational Development teams and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Table (DEIAT), they will execute projects to successful completion and support the organization in complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), including supporting the implementation of the Accessibility Plan action items to meet AODA compliance milestones. The Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Consultant will possess superior interpersonal, teamwork and conflict management skills, and is a skilled facilitator who can bring people to the table and create a brave space for open, insightful dialogue that propels our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of an overall strategy for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and leads the implementation of the ongoing workplan
  • Analyzes data and feedback, to create JBH programs or initiatives that align with JBH vision, mission and values. Translate identified JBH needs into creative and impactful solutions that improve and enhance the sense of belonging
  • Oversee program design, implementation, and ongoing operationalization
  • Evaluate and recommend program changes, improvements, and options
  • Collaborate with various areas and leaders to assess efficiency and needs
  • Collaborate with patients, families and other stakeholders to garner feedback
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine timelines and project schedule
  • Actively participates on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Table (DEIAT), as a standing chair
  • Actively participates on the AODA Committee
  • Works with consultants and vendors to analyze data and research trends on DEI continually bringing new and innovative programs. Assists in the identification of vendor contracts for program delivery
  • Conduct environmental scans of regional partners
  • Provide support and assistance in the development, creation and delivery of training initiatives on topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws
  • Draft policy and procedure changes required for implementation
  • Keep track and report on data and analysis
  • Guides all aspects of project (e.g., quality, risk, communication, staffing, etc.).
  • Monitors budgets to ensure costs do not exceed established budget
  • Conducts interviews and recruit committee team members
  • Collaborate with committee teams to encourage commitment, participation and allocates resources including: monitoring, assigning and coordinating committees and members workloads

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Organizational Behaviour or Organizational Development related field or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Experience with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives and leading sustainable culture change and transformation. Hospital, human services or health related experience is an asset
  • Familiarity with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the organizational obligations associated with this legislation
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working and applying adult learning principles, change management or project implementation
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships and interact with others at all levels in the organization.
  • Strong consulting and advisory skills; well-developed facilitation and presentation skills for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate in a meaningful way
  • Experience managing projects from conception to implementation. Demonstrated experience planning and executing on projects efficiently and effectively
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and Outlook), MS Teams, MS Forms are required for proposals and reports, develop schedules and tracking document, maintaining spreadsheets of costs and payments, develop registration forms etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large and diversified workload with often rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines
  • Superior conflict resolution and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, coaching and negotiation
  • Demonstrates values consistent with JBH and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment with internal/external stakeholders
