Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.


The Operational Services department is responsible for providing a broad range of services such as material movement, security, catering, power, air transportation, facility management, people movement and contract management.


The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.


We are currently seeking two (2) Facilities Supervisors to join our Operational Services department in Voisey’s Bay, NL . These permanent positions are based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. These positions are on a two week on, two week off rotation.


The Facilities Supervisor will assist in the development and updating of operational strategies, for the Camp facilities and will ensure it is operated and maintained in a professional fashion meeting all regulatory requirements. The position will aid in the recruitment process for employees when required and act as their direct report when hired. The position will ensure that effective Safety & Environmental procedures are in place & updated in their area of responsibility. This position will administer the catering & cleaning contract and ensure that the food / meals and accomodations meets the needs of the employees. This position will administer the security contract. This position will also ensure that sports, leisure & recreation facilities for camp occupants are amenable to those living and working at the Voisey's Bay site.


Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Work closely with the Site Services Superintendent on the ongoing operation of Camp services & facilities equipment to ensure they meet present & future operational requirements.
  • Implement & update procedures for effective & safe operation of those facilities in the area of responsibility.
  • Assist in the evaluation of employees with sufficient expertise to do the job & evaluate their training requirements necessary to ensure a quality service to all departments at site. Instill in all employees an appreciation for the Safety & Environmental process & understanding of the relative procedures is a key part of this responsibility.
  • Implement process & programs to ensure a continuous supply of power to the various site facilities & ensure we have sufficient emergency backup. Ensure that the operators can effectively carry out the procedures that are in place for load shedding, shutdowns, heat distribution, power distribution & startups for the various facilities at site in order of priority.
  • Aid in the daily / weekly administrative activities of the work group & ensure sufficient spare parts & other resources are in place to get the job done effectively. This includes assigning work, resources, temporary assignments & allotted times for completion of work, etc.
  • Work closely with the Catering & Cleaning contractor as well as the Security contractor to ensure that the level of service are at an acceptable standard. This will include a good selection & variety of means for this diverse group with a weekly menu. It also includes professional cleaning & janitorial service to accommondation rooms & offices.
  • Ensure the fire alarm & sensors to & from the control panel & the outlying areas are working effectively.
  • Work on projects & assignments as directs by the dept Manager.


About You

Education :

  • A minimum of a post-secondary education in a related field is required.
  • A Journeyperson Mechanic or Electrician would be preferred.

Experience :

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in operating and in accommodations in remote location.

Skills :

  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge & comprehension
  • Experience working with commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Experience working with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
