DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of the Manager, Compensation, the Human Resources Advisor – Compensation is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, administration, and communication of compensation programs. This position will work with the HR Team and Management to deliver compensation programs aligned with FortisAlberta’s business plans and strategic goals. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to): • Deliver annual compensation programs including merit adjustments, incentive plans, and compensation surveys. • Perform ad hoc tasks such as job evaluation, job description preparation and market pricing. • Work with the Compensation team on a variety of compensation related projects. • Provide guidance and recommendations related to non-union compensation programs; this includes advising on structure and best practice with HR team and Management. • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve administration, decrease processing times, make policy and procedural recommendations while providing superior customer service. • Prepare and/or review compensation communications for employees. • Gather and analyze compensation related information throughout collective bargaining and regulatory filing process. • Prepare and maintain compensation records, reports and documentation with an emphasis on privacy and confidentiality. • Prepare analyses in response to various queries related to compensation. • Work closely with teams in HR and Payroll to investigate issues and work together on a resolution. • Provide coverage and backup for the Total Rewards team as needed. • Special projects and other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: • Comprehensive knowledge of compensation principles and programs. • Excellent analytical skills with rigorous attention to detail. • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information; this includes a high degree of professionalism, integrity and objectivity • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. • Customer service focus supported by excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage numerous projects and customer inquiries. • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency. • Proven ability to work within a team environment. • Advanced experience using MS Office applications; specifically utilizing Excel for data analysis and modeling. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or other related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of compensation and/or Human Resources related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. • Experience in a unionized environment is a definite asset. • Completion of or working towards a CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) or Compensation related designation or certification would be an asset. • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
