Title: Human Resources Manager

Location: Mara Renewables Corp., 101 Research Drive, Dartmouth NS                      

Reporting To:  Head of Human Resources

We currently have an opening for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager at our Dartmouth, NS location.

The Position:

The HR Manager will be accountable for the execution of human resources strategy, including developing and executing initiatives to attract, develop, and retain talent critical to achieving organizational goals. The role will have a key focus on fostering a culture of innovation and high performance, creating and sustain a positive work environment where employees can thrive and contribute to the company's success. The HR Manager is responsible for overseeing various aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, training and development, employee relations, and compliance with labor laws and regulations. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving organizational change and ensuring legal compliance, contributing to long-term success of the organization.

The successful candidate for the HR Manager role should possess a robust HR background, adept in implementing and execution of HR programs, building high-performance teams, and effective communication. They must demonstrate the ability to cultivate strong relationships and exert influence across various organizational levels. Proactivity, agility in handling change, and a keen understanding of employment laws are imperative. Additionally, a steadfast commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion is essential. Above all, the candidate should thrive in dynamic, high-growth environments, exhibiting resilience and tenacity in navigating challenges and driving impactful HR initiatives to support organizational success.

Job Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

People & Culture:

  • Foster a positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement and retention, including planning and executing initiatives such as employee recognition programs, team-building activities, and employee satisfaction surveys.
  • Handling employee relations issues and resolving conflicts or disputes in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Serving as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

HR Programs:

  • Collaborate on the design and oversee implementation of HR programs to support organizational goals and enhance employee experience. Examples include recruitment & onboarding, staff benefits, wellness programs, recognition initiatives, as well as diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of HR programs.

Performance Management & Development:

  • Lead efforts to cultivate a high-performance culture throughout the organization.
  • Oversee the design of training programs tailored to advance skills and career growth, thereby aligning employee development with the long-term goals of the organization.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to managers to enhance performance.

Strategic HR Planning:

  • Partner with Head of HR to develop and execute strategic HR initiatives.
  • Conduct workforce planning and organizational development efforts to support growth.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing HR team.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to team members to drive results.

HR Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Implement policies and practices to mitigate HR-related risks and liabilities.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field is required (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an HR manager or HR Business Partner role with strong business acumen and a comprehensive understanding of a diverse range of HR functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment laws with experience ensuring compliance and managing HR-related risks.
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience successfully implementing and measuring success of HR programs & initiatives.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including 3-5 years of experience leading and mentoring HR teams.
  • Ability to lead HR projects and change management initiatives, with at least 3 years of experience in managing change processes and engaging at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with Human Resource Information System’s (HRIS) and other HR software tools, with at least 2-3 years of experience in utilizing technology to enhance HR operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in articulating HR policies and initiatives to a broad audience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships, collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, as the ability to address sensitive employee relations issues with tact and empathy.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) Designation is preferred.
  • Experience supporting HR activities in other jurisdictions such as the USA.
