Job Description - Manager, Employee and Leadership Development

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site in Ontario and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Manager, Employee and Leadership Development to join our dynamic Talent Strategy team in our People, Culture and Performance division

 

The Talent Strategy team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by leading the processes to prepare the workforce for the future and to support the effectiveness of the division. 

 

In this role, you will serve as the cornerstone of our organization's growth strategy. You won't just be crafting programs; you'll be architecting opportunities for our team members to flourish personally and professionally. Your responsibilities will encompass defining and executing our leadership and employee development strategies, ensuring that each initiative is not just effective but deeply meaningful to every individual within our organization. 

 

You will define the leadership development strategy and drive initiatives to continuously enhance Canadian Blood Services’ leadership bench strength. Specifically, you will manage the design, execution, evaluation and continuous improvement of Canadian Blood Services’ Leadership Development programs. 

 

In the employee development space, you will be accountable for defining and executing the employee development strategy aimed at enhancing employee experience and ensuring that Canadian Blood Services’ employees have the skills and capabilities required to meet current and future organizational needs. Specifically, you will lead the design of targeted employee development solutions and learning programs to future-proof talent. 

 

Formula for success

  • Drawing on your knowledge and demonstrated expertise, you will develop and execute the enterprise strategy for employees and leadership development to future-proof our talent. 
  • Utilizing your expert knowledge of current industry trends, theories, models, and best practices, you will provide thought leadership and advise the organization on the development of effective learning programs and leverage technology where possible. 
  • You will manage the corporate employee and leadership development budget, including establishing the budget, tracking against it and providing ad- hoc reporting as necessary. 
  • Harnessing your ability to lead and work collaboratively across a diverse team, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Leadership Consultant, Learning Specialist and Administrator, providing leadership, guidance, support and development to the team members to achieve team, divisional and corporate objectives. 
  • Focusing on your superior organizational planning and execution skills, you will oversee the design, planning and execution of the annual CEO Leadership Summit. 
  • You will perform other related duties as required. 

 

Desired education and skills

  • University degree, preferably a graduate degree, in Education, Adult and Organizational Learning, Leadership, Coaching, Organizational Psychology, or Organizational Development Human Resources or a related discipline. 
  • Professional Coaching Certification is an asset. 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in strategic talent management, preferably including experience in: 
    • Experience with consulting practice. 
    • Developing and implementing corporate talent programs, processes and tools, in leadership development and employee experience. 
    • Building relationships and working effectively with colleagues, customers and senior management. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English. 
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of leading practices in leadership development, talent assessment, succession planning and employee experience. 
  • Experience in managing a team of direct reports. 
  • Experience in project management.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You may be required to travel to Ottawa once or twice per year, and as required.
