Aeriosa Dance Society
Apr. 14, 2023
Aeriosa Dance Society is an artist-driven dance production company that has been a BC non-profit since 2005 and a federal charity since 2009. The mission of Aeriosa is to dance on earth in air. Under the direction of Ucluelet-based choreographer, founder, and Artistic Director, Aeriosa combines art, environment, and adventure, making dances on buildings and mountains, in the tree canopy, and on stage, finding new movement perspectives in the realm of suspension.
Aeriosa produces dance and movement-based performances for the public, provides specialized vertical dance training for professional artists, and offers educational programming in dance and other art forms to the community. Vertical dance is an emerging and growing art form using rope and harness rigging systems to suspend dancing bodies in air and stage performances in high-angle terrain. Aeriosa creates dance in non-traditional surroundings, proposing unusual performance scenarios to artists and audiences alike. Aeriosa presents many free and low-cost performances and workshops, which outreach to underserved communities and new audiences, believing that open access to dance and other arts programming strengthens our social fabric thus enriching all our lives. Aeriosa has long-established relationships and co-led artistic collaborations with a close circle of diverse, underrepresented artists and groups.
Location: Aeriosa maintains two home bases in BC. We operate on the ancestral unceded territories of xwməθkwəy̓ əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ First Nations (Vancouver) and Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ, ƛaʔuukwiiʔatḥ First Nations (Ucluelet, Tofino and Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks).
