Are you eager to promote your project management skills in an exciting role within Public Safety and Emergency Services? Do you have an interest in providing oversight and direction as it relates to projects and initiatives within the Peace Officer Program, Security Services and Investigators Program, Policing Standards Program and Civil Enforcement Program?

If so, Law Enforcement and Oversight Branch has an exciting role for you as Project Coordinator overseeing and undertaking projects and initiatives related to policy, process, technology and research to successfully deliver the required products and outcomes to the Government of Alberta and Albertans.

Role Responsibilities

Working closely with the Manager, Security Programs/Sheriff-Civil Enforcement and the Manager of Law Enforcement Oversight and Standards, as a Program Coordinator you will be responsible for:

Projects or initiatives are initiated and coordinated with agreed upon metrics for project costs, schedule, scope and quality.

  • Applying project management practices that include planning, organizing, controlling, monitoring, reporting and evaluating (project charters and plans).
  • Utilizing a consultative approach with internal and external stakeholders to produce.
  • Ensuring quality assurance measures and organizational change management plans are incorporated within the project’s plans.

Projects/initiatives are executed and controlled within the agreed upon parameters.

  • Create and deliver formal and informal communications on such items as project status, assignments and risk/issue management.
  • Perform or ensure qualified resources are performing the required tasks.
  • Plan, monitor and report on costs.
  • Monitor project progress and alter activities in consultation with the Manager, Security Programs/Sheriff-Civil Enforcement and the Manager of Law Enforcement Oversight and Standards, to ensure timely delivery of the defined products.
  • Escalate risk, issues and decision requests appropriately to ensure required action is taken and agreed upon by the Manager, Security Programs/Sheriff-Civil Enforcement and the Manager of Law Enforcement Oversight and Standards.
  • Exercise effective records management practices to ensure project auditability utilising MS Project and other software,

Project or initiative resources are effectively acquired and collaborate for high performance.

  • Within appropriate policies, identify and secure qualified resources in a timely manner for the Manager, Security Programs/Sheriff-Civil Enforcement and the Manager of Law Enforcement Oversight and Standards.
  • Provide supervision and co-ordination of all assigned project resources (both human and material resources).
  • Utilize and collaborate with the program areas as appropriate for the project.
  • Standard project management practices are applied as appropriate
  • Assist co-workers in all stages of the project management process.
  • Encourage co-workers to apply project management principles within their daily tasks.
  • Provide lessons learned feedback to management.
  • Apply the lessons learned to support a consistent project management practice for the Unit.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field such as Business, Information Technology, Communications, Project Management etc. Supplemented by a minimum of two years related experience leading or participating in a project or initiative using formal project management methodology or its equivalent.

Demonstrate experience with MS Project software and experience in project management/coordination in non-technical areas involving legislation and projects related to legislated programs.

Knowledge of Government of Alberta procurement policies and practices is required.

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of directly related education or experience on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Other assets include a project management certificate or designation, contract management experience, and security and law enforcement in Alberta.

The position is a Monday to Friday 8:15am to 4:30pm working 36.25 hours/week.
