Position The Project HSE Advisor (Advisor) works with the Facility Health and Safety Officer supporting clients within Facility and Operations developing and implementing specific program elements to enhance health and safety practices. The Advisor has experience in developing and implementing programs related to fall protection, confined space, managing hazardous energy, asbestos and contractor safety, along with specific competencies in the area of technical safety writing and training development and delivery. This role is perfect for a passionate safety professional looking to make impactful change within the University Health, Safety and Environment Management System. Duties

  • Develop HSE tools, templates, and other resources, including training, self-inspection tools, and supervisor guidelines to manage F&O / HSE Enhancement Project program elements.
  • Provide advice on gaps between the F&O / HSE Enhancement Project program elements and actions required to meet legislative and university policy requirements.
  • Performs research on new document and training material development techniques, including the use of artificial intelligence applications, to incorporate into the F&O / HSE Enhancement Project.
  • Conduct work site audits, inspections and surveys as needed to support the HSE / F&O Enhancement Project.
  • Lead in the development, implementation, administration and promotion of program related training sessions, including identifying key stakeholders, and organizing the facilitators.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma or post-secondary degree in Health and Safety. Other educational and/or training may be considered.
  • Three to five years of experience working in a health and safety role, preferably with experience in fall protection, confined space, managing hazardous energy, asbestos and contractor safety.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or equivalent technical safety designation would be an asset
  • Knowledge and understanding of the post-secondary setting would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health, Safety and Environment Management Systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, provincial, and municipal acts, regulations, codes, standards, bylaws and guidelines associated with a broad range of conventional safety hazards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hazard assessment processes and development of Standard Operating Procedures, policies and procedures and training materials.
