E&C manages initiatives and programs that seek to reduce the environmental footprint of the entire Toronto community, as well as our own corporate operations, guided by the TransformTO Climate Action Strategy.

Major Responsibilities:

 

Reporting to the Manager, Policy & Research, the Project Manager plays a critical role in supporting the coordination, development, implementation and evaluation of projects, activities, and assignments pertaining to the programs, services, policies, and/or operations of the Environment & Climate Division, while representing the Division on various committees, working groups and project related community consultations with the public.

 

The Project Manager will:

 

  • Plays a key role in developing policies and actions that support the implementation of the City of Toronto’s TranformTO Net Zero Strategy focused on collaborative efforts from key stakeholders in the Vehicle-for-Hire industry
  • Conducts research, prepare reports, status updates, feasibility studies, short term and long term strategy documents including policies into assigned portfolio areas ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.
  • Acts as a liaison with stakeholders, other City Divisions, the public, other levels of government, agencies, boards, and committees
  • Identifies viable and/or alternative funding sources and ensures project expenditures are controlled and within approved budget limitations.
  • Prepares contract documents, review technical reports, assessments, consultant proposals and make recommendations for senior management or Council for approval.
  • Identifies viable projects with sector or stakeholder representatives, provide advice and guidance to other City Divisions on environment and climate-related matters while carrying out corporate mandated programs for the betterment of the city.
  • Develops and monitor schedules, plans and strategies to ensure Environment and Climate’s targets are being met.
  • Manages a team of staff, contractors and consultants to effectively liaise with the Vehicle for Hire sector and other industry stakeholders ensuring teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance and continuous learning.
  • Represents the department on various technical committees including staff and citizen groups.
  • Facilitates requests originating from elected officials, other divisions and the public, coordinating input and assessing project feasibility within current programs.
  • Acts as a resource person for communication and inquiries related to Divisional activities and programs.

 

 

Key Qualifications:

 

  1. Post-secondary education in Engineering, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies or a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  2. Considerable experience in planning, managing and delivering multi-stakeholder environment and energy focused research, policy development and program design projects.
  3. Experience in the design and delivery of public engagement and consultation programs. A focus on environment and energy policy and programs would be considered an asset.
  4. Experience applying for grants, working with funding partners to implement project plan, managing budgets associated with operating, capital and donation.
  5. Experience as a fully accountable project leader handling multiple and diverse projects and priorities in a detail and deadline oriented environment.
  6. Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) that include excellent report writing, briefing material preparation and strong presentation skills, able to deliver to various levels of staff and other groups.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and staff.
  8. Proficiency with a variety of software including, MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), MS Project, social media platforms and database software packages.
  9. Familiarity with Ontario Statues, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, employment standards, labour and human rights, and other applicable government legislation.
  10. Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces.
