Job Summary Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Manager, Student Health Promotion, the Coordinator will help the Student Health and Wellness division of Student Affairs achieve its strategic vision for delivering the best student experience in Canada by coordinating and delivering health promotion programming and initiatives for Dalhousie’s Halifax campuses and the University of King’s College. Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, maintain and execute key health-related programs, activities and events for students with a focus on holistic health knowledge translation, and building healthy lifestyle skills (e.g., Dal After Dark, Naloxone Training, STI Screening Clinics, PAWsitive Support, The Inquiring Mind Post-Secondary, Mental Health Awareness Week, Black Health Awareness Week, etc.).
  • Identify, build relationships, consult, and work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to create opportunities for and increase outcome-oriented participant engagement.
  • Ensure all programming is delivered through an equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility lens, and with a commitment to risk management and participant safety.
  • Review and coordinate student-led program and event grant applications and proposals, ensuring requests meet departmental mandates. Assist students with program planning and execution to support development of healthy lifestyle, career and leadership skills. Ensure responsible allocation of student-generated funds.
  • Provide and assist with training, supervision, and scheduling of Care Crew part-time student staff in the facilitation and execution of events and programs.
  • Provide financial support to Manager; prepare and report on programming budgets, purchasing and organization of programming supplies in accordance with university guidelines.
Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus during the academic year (August - April). After successful completion of the probationary period, the successful applicant may be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) from May - July as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. The successful applicant must be available for occasional work on evenings and weekends based on operational requirements. Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a health-related field plus at least one to three years’ relevant work experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience with planning, developing and assessment of programs and events, community engagement and leadership development.
  • Proven interpersonal, teamwork, relationship building, engagement, and communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to lead, coach and supervise student staff and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, outcome oriented, flexible and adaptive to change.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and lifelong learning in health and wellness promotion.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs on an occasional basis.
Assets
  • Experience working in a post-secondary education environment or large, complex organization.
  • Event management and social media experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, etc.), Adobe, Canva and survey form software systems.
  • Expertise in health promotion topics of harm reduction, sexual health, mental health promotion and knowledge translation related to communicable disease.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Drivers License and access to a reliable personal vehicle.
