Student Life and Learning consists 3 main areas: Student Life provides supports and opportunities for students to become engaged in their
community and creates a sense of belonging. Equity programs, the LGBTQ resource centre and the BASE (Black Academic Support and
Engagement), builds on this objective, but also provides additional supports and community for equity-deserving populations. PALS (Peer
Assisted Learning Support) serves students through peer tutoring, supplemental academic supports and notetaking and works closely with the
Math and Writing Centre. Together, the programs support students in their transition into Humber College and support them while they are
students here.
Job Details
Position Title: Coordinator, Student Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives - LGBTQ Resource Centre
Status: App D Contract
Hours: 35hrs/wk
Faculty/Department: Student Success and Engagement
Campus/Location: Some travel to various campuses
Salary: Band G (Min $32.42 Max $37.57)
What you will do:
The Coordinator, Student Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives will report to the Manager, Equity & Student Life and works closely with campus
partners and stakeholders to promote and implement programs and activities promoting diversity and inclusion at Humber (some travel to all
campuses is required). Specifically, the coordinator will create opportunities through programming for students to develop a sense of belonging
within the larger Humber environment, promote visibility, and provide supports and referrals to services both on and off campus for a
marginalized students and student groups. Additionally, the Coordinator will participate in collecting materials to build the LGBTQ+ resource
centre assets as well as ensure the Resources Centres are open and accessible to students, staff and faculty by scheduling volunteers and
student staff.
Under the supervision of the Manager, Equity & Student Life, the Coordinator, Student Diversity & Inclusion will be responsible for creating,
developing, and implementing the services, programs, and initiatives that promote cross-cultural awareness and understanding and through an
intersectional approach. Oversee the LGBTQ+ resource centre including assisting with the hiring, training and guidance of volunteers and
student staff where applicable.
Qualifications
What you bring to the role:
Education
The successful candidate will possess a 3-year diploma/degree or equivalent in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Women’s and Gender
Studies, Social Work, Human Development, Leadership Theory/Student Development Theory.
Including a sound knowledge of:
Experience
The incumbent will have a minimum of 3-years professional work experience. In addition, the candidate will have demonstrated involvement in
diversity and inclusion activities; as well as experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and knowledge of instructional design
and delivery; understanding of student development and adult learning theory; lived experience as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
