Job Description - Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor works closely with our Maintenance, Engineering and Operations teams to ensure exceptional service delivery of our Certarus equipment in the field.  This role is responsible for identifying and implementing improvements to our maintenance processes and working with our Reliability team to shape our preventative, predictive, and reliability-driven maintenance programs. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the repair and maintenance budget, as well as input into capital planning, for all of the company’s heavy- and light-vehicle fleet.  This role will have joint responsibility with our regional-based Operations Managers for the work program, career development, and oversight of our field-based mechanics. Schedule:
  • Monday to Friday, with some after-hours work as required.
  • Occasional travel to the corporate office in Calgary and our field locations throughout the USA and Canada.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensure maintenance and fleet best practices are effectively implemented, utilized, and improved across the Certarus North American business, including inspections, preventative maintenance requirements, spares management, and repair and maintenance budgets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Operations and Logistics, to optimize fleet performance, out-of-service rates, inspection program, and overall reliability.
  • Track and improve maintenance KPIs, including asset turns, meantime between failures, out-of-service rates, open work orders, overdue preventative maintenance orders, and other key metrics.
  • ​​​​​​ Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to evaluate equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversight of repair and maintenance budget development and management for vehicle fleet,
  • Develop a strong cost management structure for Maintenance that identifies opportunities to improve our business and implement short and long-term cost saving initiatives.
  • Alongside our operations team, forecast heavy and light-vehicle asset requirements, including asset retirements or upgrades.
  • Work with local managers to identify and manage field maintenance team requirements, tools, certifications, training, and career development.
  • Work with Procurement and Engineering teams to manage vendor relationships for critical spares and regular third-party maintenance or inspections, including national vendor contracts.
  • Assess and manage business systems to improve asset and fleet maintenance, including inventory and spares management, work orders, and maintenance cost tracking.
  • Promote and drive a proactive and positive HSE culture within Certarus.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years in Maintenance or Fleet Management roles within a heavy equipment industrial environment, ideally with 2+ years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with heavy and light vehicle fleet maintenance and compliance programs, including US federal or state regulatory requirements. 
  • Familiarity with Canadian federal or provincial requirements would be an advantage.
  • Experience working in medium-size fleet, oil and gas services, piping systems, compressed gases, or controls would be an advantage.
  • Track record in driving equipment reliability improvements related to maintenance; implementation of predictive maintenance would be an advantage.
  • Experience coaching and developing technicians, mechanics, and operations employees, ideally in a multi-site environment.
  • Experience managing maintenance department budgets, and ideally with input into capital equipment planning and asset management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organization & leadership skills.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering, maintenance, or industrial field would be an advantage.
  • Experience with LEAN / Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis, or other continuous improvement tools would be an advantage.
