Job Description - Project Manager - year, temporary

Status: Full-time, 1 year, temporary
Location: Ottawa Ontario (hybrid)
Closing date: April 30, 2024
Salary range: $67,000 to $84,000 per year CADTH is Canada’s drug and health technology agency. We’re a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Ottawa, with a satellite office in Toronto. The Project Manager is the logistical focal point for the administration, process execution and reporting of complex CADTH projects to ensure effective and efficient project delivery on time and within budget. The Project Manager leads cross-functional project teams on multiple projects concurrently to fulfill project scope and meet customer commitments. Throughout each assigned project's life cycle, the Project Manager develops and manages all nonresearch aspects of CADTH projects. Projects may be complex with lengthy timelines, and project teams may include project or section owners, subject matter experts, researchers, health economists, and research information specialists as required. On any given day, the Project Manager will:
Project Onboarding and Planning
1. Prepares and develops the project scope, timelines, and budget commitment from the outset, including establishing a project charter, key milestones and deliverables, and advising on core project governance principles while soliciting input from the broader project team and project owner.
2. Works with the Project Management Office to develop project schedules and milestones for complex projects.
3. Prepares agendas, chairs project meetings, and communicates project deliverables and risks to all participants, ensuring milestones and project deadlines are followed.
Project Execution and Control
1. Manages and tracks all budgeting and resourcing activities related to the project, and promptly communicates and escalates to senior leadership and the project owner any and all emerging risks to the project timeline, scope, and budget. Where risks are identified, provide recommendations and solutions to ensure project deliverables remain on track.
2. Leads the management of each project, including assigning tasks to responsible project members, preparing agendas and chairing project meetings, communicating project deliverables and risks to all participants, and providing timely status updates to all key project partners, including CADTH leadership.
3. Facilitates the onboarding of key subject matter experts to support project execution.
4. Collaborates with project and program owners to capture and document efficiencies to optimize project execution.
5. Assists leadership and the Project Management Office in new product and service initiatives by providing expert input on developing processes and translating them into executable schedules.
6. Prepares and delivers status updates on an agreed-upon and regular basis with all key project partners, including CADTH leadership
Project Closing and Reporting
1. Collects and compiles a summary of project feedback, learnings, takeaways, and areas of improvement to inform future project best practices and regularly connects with the Project Management Office to share these learnings.
2. Ensures project team sites are maintained with centralized visibility on performance metrics to support the Project Management Office and senior leaders with decision-making.
3. Prepares and validates reports on project key performance indicators required by funders, management staff and project teams, provides projections and monitors overages to enable and support management decisions on CADTH programs and services.
4. Ensures project teams' sites are populated accordingly to ensure centralized visibility for dashboarding and performance metric tracking
Is this the right role for you? The Project Manager will likely have:
This position requires a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and a minimum of an undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Project Management, with 3+ years’ experience as a project manager. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Specific requirements also include:
  • experience in the application of project management principles and the implementation of best practices, including coaching others in the application of principles and practice
  • expertise in developing and maintaining project schedules
  • significant experience with MS Project (MS Project Server) or other related project management software tools
  • excellent organizational skills with a well-developed ability to plan and manage priorities;
  • strong communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • ability to proactively identify risks to the successful completion of projects, problem solve and recommend the best course of action appropriate to customer needs and CADTH’s culture
  • flexibility and adaptability within a dynamic working environment to anticipate needs, and successfully manage multiple tasks, conflicting priorities, and regular process changes while supporting several different product types concurrently;
  • ability to work under pressure and handle confidential matters with discretion.
