Job Description - Procurement & Ocean Freight Coordinator

Procurement & Ocean Freight Coordinator Location Remote in Winnipeg, MB :

Roles & Responsibilities

Ocean Freight Coordination:

  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate rates with freight forwarders.
  • Coordinate the shipment of goods to warehouses and jobsite locations via ocean freight, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to shipping schedules.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Sales, Operations, Procurement and Warehouse teams, to optimize freight transportation and distribution processes.
  • Address any issues or delays in shipments, working closely with carriers and customs authorities to resolve problems promptly.

Customs Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations and requirements for import/export activities, including tariff classifications, duties, taxes, and documentation.
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of customs clearance documents, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Stay updated on changes to customs laws and regulations in relevant countries and regions, advising internal teams on compliance matters.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with ocean freight and customs clearance operations, such as supply chain disruptions, geopolitical events, and regulatory changes.
  • Develop contingency plans and alternative strategies to minimize the impact of potential disruptions on business operations.

Procurement Management:

  • Coordinate the procurement process from requisition to receipt, ensuring timely and accurate fulfillment of purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and site supervisors, to understand project requirements and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier communications.
  • Monitor inventory levels of products, forecasting demand and replenishing stock as needed to support ongoing orders/projects.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of goods, assessing their quality, reliability, and pricing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in procurement, logistics, or supply chain management, with a focus on ocean freight and customs clearance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite such as Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and process driven.
  • Dedicated to the pursuit of continuous improvement.

Assets

  • Additional consideration will be given to those having any of the following:
  • Supply Chain Canada enrollment and or certification in SMT, SCMP or any other recognized procurement or logistics programs.
  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Project Management/coordination experience.

Other Information

  • This is a full-time position, 5 days per week, Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the potential for some over time during the peak busy season.
  • Flexibility to be a remote position in Canada within close proximity to one of our locations.
  • Travel may be required.
