Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Policy Development in Economic Development and Culture (EDC), the Research Analyst 3 will conduct research and analysis on various topics, summarizing qualitative and quantitative data and presenting information through written studies and through presentation decks, to support the division’s priority policy and research initiatives. The Research Analyst 3 will also support the unit in its daily operational and administrative duties, helping ensure that it continuously advances the division’s goals. This role is an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the different duties related to policy development at the City of Toronto.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conducts research and analysis related to program area, synthetizing complex information into simple documents aligned with the audience.
  • Supports the background and overall research efforts of the division, writing and developing briefing notes, decks and other materials to present results.
  • Collects, maintains and analyzes data and transforms it for use by staff, the public, other divisions.
  • Assists staff to develop and implement research approaches, evaluate methodologies and analyze findings.
  • Assists with the development of protocols, unit policies and procedures.
  • Develops, compiles and analyzes surveys and other engagement tools.
  • Designs and creates consultation materials and detailed maps.
  • Develops, designs and updates web pages.
  • Ensures documents are appropriate and accurately reflect continually changing policies and procedures.
  • Provides information and liaises with other organizations and the public.
  • Compiles information packages and other direct mail activities in support of Unit's activities.
  • Assists Unit staff with consultation event logistics and activities, coordinating meetings and attending functions as required to provide on-site assistance.
  • Maintains a filing system, assists with administrative support and operational duties for the Unit, including preparation of financial procedures paperwork.

 

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary degree in a relevant program or discipline, or the approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  2. Considerable experience in research, writing and editing of documents with the ability to turn complex subjects into succinct, easily understood information.
  3. Experience and knowledge of various software applications i.e. MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Illustrator etc

 

 

You must also have:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, in combination with a high level of initiative to perform duties under minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the Toronto Public Service and members of the public.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, taking a constructive, solutions-based approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, interpret and present quantitative and qualitative information from a variety of sources.
  • Excellent demonstrated organizational and research management skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Comprehensive understanding of city government, organizational structures, council proceedings and current political issues.
