As an Automation Engineer on Vention’s Applications team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and testing system-level automation solutions which leverage Vention’s hardware, automation and software ecosystem as well as our partners. You will work closely with Robotics Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers from Vention’s core product teams.
The Automation Engineer is called to work in various phases of a product, integrating solutions end-to-end from mechanical design to robot arms, to end-of-arm tools, to other peripherals like vision and safety systems, to Vention’s controller ecosystem. More specifically you will:
Design, build, test and characterize automated and robotic solutions leveraging Vention’s ecosystem.
Inform the “core product” roadmap by creating prototype and early-version components alongside the Mechanical Hardware and Automation Hardware teams to broaden the scope of Vention’s productized Applications and overall product offering.
Leverage off-the-shelf industrial automation hardware where needed to enable Vention’s Productized Applications.
Support pre-sales teams with feasibility testing of client projects and demos with equipment in the Applications Lab.
Support post-sales teams in the delivery of early-maturity Applications.
Assist in the early drafting of documentation for Applications (Design Guides, Integration/Assembly Manuals, Installation Manuals, User Manuals).
Hands-on experience deploying automated or robotic solutions
University degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering, Engineering Systems and Computing, Robot Technology, or related industry experience
Strong programming skills (ideally Python)
Experience with CAD software is an asset
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (ex: Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU, Ethernet/IP)
Knowledge of design and safety standards for automated equipment
Excellent understanding of machine safety and standards (ISO13849-1/2, CAN/CSA Z434, CAN/CSA Z432 and similar)
