Based in Edmonton, our client is a leading designer, manufacturer, and marketer of single-use medical products to customers worldwide. The company has its corporate head office in Edmonton, Alberta, an office in Barbados, three wholly owned manufacturing facilities in China, one in Laos, and a manufacturing Centre of Excellence in Cambridge, Ontario. Our client is an ISO 13485:2016 registered company and recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies and Alberta’s Top 80 Employers.

Your Role & Responsibilities

The Information Systems (IS) department is responsible for our client’s global information technology (IT) infrastructure and the maintenance and development of various IT systems that are critical to our client’s operation. In line with our organizational value of innovation, and our commitment to operational excellence, we are embarking on a multi-year project to implement a single global instance ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system across all locations.

The ERP Project Manager is a strategic role designed to guide our organization through a critical digital transformation to a new global ERP system, which will be a tier one system (i.e., SAP/Oracle/Microsoft/IFS). This role will be responsible for ensuring the project is delivered on time, within scope, and budget, and meets the strategic objectives of the organization. This role will drive the project from planning through to execution and post-implementation support, focusing on achieving optimal operational efficiency and scalability to support future growth.

The ERP Project Manager will work closely with senior leadership, including C-level executives, to ensure the project aligns with strategic objectives. Collaboration with stakeholders at multiple levels across manufacturing, operations, finance and IS is crucial to understanding the diverse needs of the business and ensuring the ERP system supports these areas effectively. It is also critical to establish and maintain strong relationships with ERP vendors, consultants, and other third-party service providers to ensure access to the best resources, technologies, and expertise.

Responsibilities

The following is a high-level description of the role responsibilities and is not meant to be all-inclusive:

  • Lead the ERP project from inception to completion, including project planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and risk management.
  • In conjunction with vendors, develop a detailed project plan that includes milestones, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure a smooth and timely implementation.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through regular communication, workshops, and training sessions to ensure buy-in and support across the organization.
  • Oversee the system configuration to ensure it meets the specific needs of our global operations without compromising on system performance or future scalability.
  • Coordinate with vendors to understand system capabilities and manage vendor relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and enforce project management and governance frameworks to ensure adherence to best practices and standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and ensure the ERP solution aligns with our strategic goals and operational needs.
  • Oversee a cross-functional project team, including IT, finance, operations, and external consultants, to ensure effective collaboration and communication.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive change management strategy to facilitate user adoption and minimize disruption to business operations.
  • Monitor project progress, identify, and address any issues or delays, and provide regular updates to the executive team and project stakeholders.
  • Implement rigorous testing phases, including unit testing, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing, to ensure the system is reliable and meets all requirements before going live.
  • Establish a support structure for post-implementation, including training programs for end-users and centralized support (internal and/or outsourced) to address any issues promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 11) and industry best practices relevant to the medical products manufacturing sector.

Existing Judgment/Impacts of decision/Consequences of error

This role is pivotal in overseeing the implementation of a global ERP system along with other related systems. This role demands a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and the capacity to foresee and mitigate potential issues before they arise. The incumbent is empowered to make strategic decisions that significantly influence the project's direction and outcome. Given the direct interaction with financial systems, a solid understanding of financial implications is crucial for making informed decisions.

This role would typically solve the following problems using their own judgment, experience, and expertise:
