Job Description - Sr Manufacturing Engineer

Sr Manufacturing Engineer Location Richmond : A Day in Your Life at MKS: As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc. you be responsible for offering technical and operational support to the Photon Control Production and Product Development Teams. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will work in close co-operation with these cross-functional teams to ensure successful transfer and commercialization of New Products (NPI) into production, support existing production processes, new technology acquisitions and drive continuous improvement to enable the organization to meet delivery, lead time and quality objectives. In this role, you will report to the Manager, Manufacturing Engineering You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Assisting in failure and root cause analysis investigations (NC/CA, FA, etc.) and, when required, executing effective, practical, controlled corrective action to eliminate future re-occurrence on the production floor.
  • Applying advanced problem-solving methodology such as DMAIC, 8D analysis, etc., to identify effective solutions to complex issues with unknown root causes.
  • Designing jigs, fixtures, and tooling using CAD (SolidWorks) to provide solutions to the production floor.
  • Implementing and managing continuous improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, business processes, and ERP systems to eliminate waste and enhance value.
  • Assisting and training operators in improvement methods such as kaizens, 5S, visual management, etc.
  • Supporting the Process Reliability team with equipment maintenance, verification, and calibration duties as required.
  • Writing and editing technical documentation to enable controlled implementation of any changes to release products following the established validation.
  • Leading Design for Manufacture (DFM) & Design for Assembly (DFA) efforts on engineering programs and providing feedback to the design team on improvement during design reviews.
  • Applying ‘build-in quality' tools in the NPI stage, including PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow, and product/process requirements.
  • Being able and willing to carry out any other duties and projects as required by the company.
  • Skills You Bring:
    • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field of applied science.
    • 3-5 years of progressive experience in similar manufacturing or industrial engineering roles.
    • Lean Six Sigma training is essential.
    • Proficiency in utilizing 'build-in quality' tools like FMEA, QCP, MSA, etc.
    • Competency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software, including application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Knowledge of PPAP/APQP and associated 'build-in quality' tools.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
    • Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may frequently change.
    Preferred Skills:
    • Supervisory experience in electronics manufacturing (Copy Exact) environments.
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
    • Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or similar professional designation.
    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Regularly requires good manual dexterity and coordination.
    • Occasionally moves/positions objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to remain in a stationary position for 40% of the time.
    • Frequently positions self to perform tasks and positions objects below, at, and above shoulder level.
    • Regularly requires manual dexterity and coordination of objects below, at and above shoulder level.
    • Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
    • Must be able to exchange accurate information.
    • Operates in a professional office and/or laboratory/manufacturing environment.
    • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
    • Ability to observe documents and details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
    • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards, including handling mechanical and electrical hardware, high voltage, gas, water, and heat.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually average.

    Compensation: Salary Pay Range: $68,500 - $127,100 per year.
