Vice President, Architecture and Target Operating Model Design

Purpose

The Vice President, Architecture and Target Operating Model Design is responsible for the creation, implementation and refinement of delivery best practices for functional and technical solutions of Global Wealth Technology initiatives. The VP will lead the modernization and future state of core technology platforms and capabilities across Wealth Technology through continuous improvement in our engineering solutions to ensure effectiveness, improved software delivery and maintenance practices.


Accountabilities

  • Responsible for defining, leading, owning and executing on the strategy roadmap for initiatives related to core platforms including modernization, maintenance, reliability to ensure effectiveness and improved software delivery
  • Responsible for providing overall direction, guidance and definition of enterprise and business architecture to support both Global Wealth and Asset Management Business and Technology strategy.
  • Primary Lead within Wealth Technology dedicated to the successful execution of the multi-year enterprise Cloud Acceleration Program, partnering closely with technical leads, supporting cross-workstream architectural alignment
  • Develop, track and oversee an Architecture framework that defines principles, standards, and global technology target state reference architectures and patterns for core capabilities to be adopted across the Wealth Technology organization.
  • Identify and replace core platforms with leading vendor hosted solutions and adopt common systems across lines of businesses.
  • Maintain business & technology roadmaps that outlines the bank's current and future technology landscape which will help guide decision-making around technology investments, system integration, and modernization efforts.
  • Provide leadership to develop and oversee the implementation of architecture strategies standards and principles and ensure that technology solutions adhere to security, regulatory, and compliance requirements while promoting interoperability and scalability
  • Lead a progressive program of modernization initiatives concurrently and oversee the execution of those projects (e.g., Cloud Migration, Data & Analytics/AI, ML/Automation, Front & Back Office Transformation, Core Transformation, etc.)
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with cross functional stakeholders to develop and implement the firm's technology strategy, aligning it with overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Technology owner of the data for their domain and is a lead member of their domain working group, overseeing the technology-focused roles supporting the domain. The Vice President works closely and coordinates with members of their Domain Working Group to comply with the Bank's Enterprise Data Management Policy Framework
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Identify, design and promote practical and relevant technology solutions in line with business strategies, managing delivery from ideation to implementation.
  • Provides leadership in delivery of most effective and efficient technology solutions through build vs buy analysis, reusability, enterprise-wide collaboration etc.
  • Challenge conventional practices and status quo with the goal of continuous improvement of technology capabilities to deliver practical business solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with company technology standards, frameworks and policies with regard to solution architecture, security, data privacy and residency.
  • Builds, leads and develops a competent and high performing team which will attract, develop and inspire talent. Assists functional leaders and talent acquisition team in recruitment
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education & Experience

  • University degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of progressively increasing leadership experience in Information Technology
  • 5+ years managing strategy, process improvement and global transformations in large organizations, multiple geographies and operating models
  • Experience driving global transformation programs with depth in Wealth & Asset Management Operations and Technology across the Investment Management lifecycle including the manufacturing and packaging of solutions across all distribution channel
  • Thorough knowledge of Wealth Management, including full service brokerage and online brokerage. Working knowledge of Private Investment Counsel, Private Banking and Insurance
  • Experience with migrating to cloud based global operating models
  • In depth industry knowledge and experience of the end-to-end investment management process across front/middle/back-office business functions across asset and wealth management including CRM and trading
  • Strong technical communication skills with a proven ability to understand key business and technical concepts, and present them based on target audience (e.g. Senior Executives, Architects, Developers)
  • Technology and Digital experience, with an understanding of AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, with exposure to digital transformation is an asset
  • Executive gravitas with advanced problem solving and communication skills, highly collaborative, a true partner and enabler, strong team player and influencer
  • Innovative mindset; ability to continually challenge the status quo, inspire a shared vision and promote key values driving urgency and execution, to facilitate a client focused culture within labs and business lines.
  • Strong understanding of agile principles and scrum team practices and rituals an asset.
  • Able to lead teams through a fast-paced environment with priorities that can quickly change and often are in conflict with each other.
  • Deep understanding of service-oriented architecture, cloud platform and engineering, security, identity and access management, operating system model, modern data platforms, business intelligence, data mining and visualization tools
