Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean, School of Applied Science, Skills and Technology, the Associate Dean, Applied Science, Computing and Technology provides broad academic leadership and operational effectiveness to programming including labs and facilities within the School of Applied Science, Skills, and Technology. With a keen focus on the academic well-being and growth of students, the incumbent provides support and direction to faculty and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the objectives of the programs are attained through effective management of teaching and learning processes which includes managements of compliance with governmental, regulator and accrediting bodies and budget responsibility
  • Facilitate on-going quality assurance processes for existing programs and development of new programs to reflect market changes and the employment needs of industry in alignment with the College’s strategic and academic plans.
  • Establishes positive relationships with industry and business representatives and contributes to the College’s student recruitment, applied research and work/integrated learning initiatives
  • Responsible for the effective delivery of Applied Science, Computing and Technology programs through effective management, quality assurance, provision of resources and deep understanding of student experiences
  • Fosters an environment that model’s diversity and inclusion, innovation, and effective communication/interaction amongst and between faculty, staff and students.
  • Plans operational effectiveness for student enrolment and ensures the accuracy of data for course loading, student timetables, calendar materials, course outlines, etc.
  • Collaborate with and support programs to plan, implement and execute curriculum updates and improvements through a variety of delivery methodologies
  • Collaborate with the Dean and other College Service Departments to contribute to the development of goals and objectives related to learning and faculty professional development, budgets, capital plans, and academic leadership team objectives
  • Manages staff day-to-day operations, and through proactive planning, mentoring, and communication, models the College’s core values
  • Maintain excellent relations with all stakeholders through active listening, encouraging dialogue and proactive problem-solving; investigates and resolves issues in an effective and timely manner in accordance with College procedures
  • Manage student enrolment and ensure the accuracy of data for course loading, student timetables, calendar materials, course outlines, etc.
  • Ensures a high level of performance through effective recruiting, selecting, hiring, developing, motivating, evaluating and training of faculty and staff including promotion of professional development
  • Anticipates trends and shifts in funding and manages program risk

Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in applied science computing and/or technology preferably within the college system
  • Completion of bachelor’s degree in applied science, computing, technology or a related field required; a Masters Degree in Education or a related technical field would be an asset
  • Teaching experience, preferably in the college sector, considered an asset
  • Experience in collaborative leadership, planning, goal setting, resource allocation and managing change initiatives
  • Advocate and promoter of the applied sciences and technology and value relationships within, across, and outside the College and actively build and maintain relationships that support the College’s goals.
  • Student-focused leader, committed to excellence in teaching, learning and applied research and supporting faculty in advancing a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Experience with supervision of staff within a unionized environment is required
  • Advanced familiarity with a variety of teaching and learning methodologies and educational technology is preferred
  • Experience with budgets and project management is required
  • Coordination or management experience in the post-secondary sector is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership success in a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Successful candidate must be organized and able to multi-task
  • Self-directed team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
