Position Highlights
Investment Banking Associates enjoy a challenging work environment in which they execute a wide range of transactions. A high degree of responsibility is given to those who demonstrate initiative and a desire to take responsibility.
Early in their careers, associates focus on client presentations, financial modeling, research and mentoring/supervising analysts. As their career progresses, associates take on increased transactional responsibilities and participate in business development under the direction of senior group members. Scotiabank exposes new associates to members of the management team and clients as early as possible, allowing them to gain experience in relationship management and development.
A great deal of effort, diligence and initiative is required to perform the duties. The complexity of client financial requirements, coupled with the intense competitiveness of the investment banking industry, requires total commitment to the task at hand. Standards are very high as most of the work is presented to senior management at the client's site and supervision is provided only to the extent that it is required.
With a limited hierarchy of professionals and a small project team approach, associates have ample opportunity for growth and career development. On any given project, associates will interact with other departments within the Bank such as Corporate Banking, Equity Capital Markets, Global Fixed Income and Global Equity Derivatives, gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and capital markets.
We have several investment banking opportunities across all of our sector and product teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Assess and analyze financial needs of corporate clients, including the development of financial models
  • Creation of marketing materials and presentations

  • Financial and written analysis of companies and industries
  • Preparation of client presentations, including data compilation and assembly of presentation materials
  • Supporting the drafting of prospectuses, related documents and marketing materials for transactions
  • Applying product and financial market knowledge to help clients achieve their financial goals

What You'll Bring:

  • 3-6 years of professional experience in investment banking or mergers and acquisitions
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in business, finance, math, engineering, economics, science or technology would be preferred
  • Strong quantitative skills focusing on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with a particular emphasis on Excel
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of work
  • Ability to excel under pressure with demanding deadlines and perform effectively in a team environment
  • High professional standards, including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
