Job Description - Business Growth Executive

Job Opportunity: Business Growth Executive (Term position immediately till Sept 30, 2025)

The Business Growth Executive manages the development and growth of Nova Scotia’s global business advisor network and supports Nova Scotia First Fund portfolio companies and other Nova Scotia start- ups raising venture capital. Exhibiting agile project planning, program management, and team building skills, the Business Growth Executive leads the overall management of the Scotians Global Advisor Program, coordinates the completion of Scotians match requests, and leads the growth and relationship management of a global network of volunteer Advisors. The position is also a key resource for support to Nova Scotia First Fund portfolio and other start ups, including project management of support programs, missions, and events, and leveraging business and investor networks to support client growth.

In this role, the successful candidate will:

  • Manage all aspects of the Scotians Global Advisor Program including liaising with client applicants, Invest Nova Scotia’s Business Investment, Business Growth, Regional Business Development and Export Development teams, and existing Global Advisors.
  • Identifies and recommends Advisor matches that are relevant, timely, impactful, and aligned with identified Invest NS client needs.
  • Implements an evaluation framework for the Scotians Program, continually improves the Program process, recommends change, brings forward new ideas, and supports the ideas of others.
  • Creates, implements, and assesses an evidence-based, annual recruitment plan to grow and maintain the network of Scotians Global Advisors in alignment with Invest NS strategic objectives.
  • Leads the client application process, including the assessment of all program applications and communicating the outcome directly to the applicant.
  • Represents the Scotians Global Advisor Program, presenting the program to internal and external stakeholders, and collaborates with the Invest Nova Scotia marketing team to develop content and campaigns in support of Scotians.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Business Growth, monitors approved Scotians budget to ensure prudent financial management, making recommendations to reallocate funding where appropriate.
  • Assesses the evolving needs of Invest Nova Scotia portfolio companies and clients and other Nova Scotia start ups raising venture capital to identify strategic opportunities for support.
  • Engages with other start up support organizations and investment community networks to share offering and identify opportunities to partner.
  • Creates, implements, and assesses an evidence-based, annual plan to grow support for in alignment with Invest NS strategic objectives.
  • In collaboration with other managers, monitors approved portfolio services budget to ensure prudent financial management, making recommendations to reallocate funding where appropriate.
  • Evaluates business ideas, applications, and pitches, and provides constructive feedback to start ups and portfolio clients. Identifies and meets with prospective clients to assess suitability for Invest Nova Scotia’s investment pipeline.

Education/ Professional Experience:

  • The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in business with a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in private and/or public sector in a client-partner engagement, project planning, business advisory or related role. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
