Are you passionate about the dynamic world of supply chain management (SCM)? Join our hard-working and diverse team in Sparwood! 

Reporting to the Superintendent, Contractor Services in the SCM Department, the Buyer is responsible for providing procurement support for goods and services including contract development, analysis, and execution critical to production. The Buyer collaborates closely with internal partners, including maintenance planners and schedulers, inventory control, and other Buyers to support the administration of procurement duties with an emphasis on cost effective supply of goods and services and reducing Teck’s exposure to external supply chain risk.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with excellent negotiating, problem solving, and decision-making abilities, who is self-motivated and can work with minimal direction. This person has strong communication and interpersonal skills and can build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners. The ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational abilities is vital.

Responsibilities:

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Ensure the timely and cost-effective supply of goods and services 
• Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate contracts, including service, trade, and master service contracts
• Assist with contract management and termination procedures
• Research and analyze trade related information including supply, demand, and cost metrics
• Perform basic analyses for firm fixed price or similar contracts
• Perform commonly used contracting methods and contract types related to pre-award, post-award, price, and cost analysis functions to perform well-defined and precedent contract actions
• Analyze business practices and market conditions to evaluate bid responsiveness, contractor responsibility and contractor performance
• Presents information; composes memoranda, minutes, and reports; and draft contract provisions and supporting documents
• Monitor compliance and facilitate interventions to manage risks
• Become knowledgeable with Teck Coal and departmental operating policies and procedures

Qualifications:

• Diploma, Degree, Certificate, or designation in a Supply Chain Management program, or other relevant subject area
• Minimum three years of relevant experience
• Experience in the Supply Management field with a good understanding of contract structures, terms, and conditions
• Proficient in SCM related enterprise solutions including Maximo and Dynamics AX
• Excellent digital literacy and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite®
