Job Description - Inside Investment Consultant

Inside Investment Consultant Location Toronto, ON :

Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Investment & Advisory Solutions ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. The Inside Investment Consultant works closely with the Director, Business Development and Senior Investment Consultants to generate sales and develop new business along with servicing and managing existing clients on all fee based and managed programs . The Inside Investment Consultant has responsibility for helping to growng fee based and managed asset AUM, establishing, developing and retaining account relationships within the ScotiaMcLeod (SM) and Private Investment Counsel (PIC) sales channels. The Inside Investment Consultant uses daily contact through email and calls and occasional in-person meetings, to build relationships and increase sales.

Accountabilities

1. Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

2. Contributes to the continued growth of managed asset solutions AUM within Scotia Wealth Management by:

  • Possessing strong product knowledge of all fee-based and managed asset programs within SM and PIC
  • Providing ongoing support to the field by responding to incoming sales and service calls, including operational and administrative questions
  • Supporting the Director, Business Development and Senior Investment Consultants by promptly following up on meetings, branch visits, events, and outstanding proposals
  • Soliciting feedback and needs from SM Advisors and PIC Relationship Managers (RMs) and communicating them back to the Investment Solutions Group
  • Creating and delivering proposals for delivery to Advisors
  • Ensuring that regional events and branch presentations are well attended by using outbound call campaigns
  • Escalating client issues to the appropriate group
  • Being involved in special projects as required
  • Identifying sales roadblocks and implementing solutions
  • Assessing relevant data and information to implement regional sales strategies, identify business opportunities and provide input and assistance in resolving impediments to business growth
  • Promoting the use of managed asset programs, ScotiaMcLeod Investment Portfolios (SIP), Summit and Pinnacle Programs, as being beneficial to Advisors' books of business

3. Creates proposals for ScotiaMcLeod Advisors and PIC Relationship Managers that highlight Scotia Wealth Management's Total Wealth Offering and managed asset programs and will:

  • Develop working relationships with the various groups within Scotia Wealth Management and key business partners, both internal and external.
  • Work with members of the Business Development Team to finalize investment recommendations and content
  • Track the number of custom proposal requests and won/lost opportunities
  • Work closely with the Investment Communications team to ensure up-to-date information and adherence to branding and disclosure guidelines

4. Assists with establishing managed asset AUM targets and developing a strategic business plan within Scotia Wealth Management that will result in:

  • Increased assets under administration and stronger market share
  • Greater usage of models within the managed asset programs by SM Advisors
  • A high knowledge level among Advisors
  • Improved Advisor ROA and regional ROA
  • Increased scalability in Advisor businesses to deliver Total Wealth
  • Greater compliance with Client Focused Reforms

Success will be determined by the incumbent's ability to help the team achieve sales growth of investment products through their defined region.

5. Acts as the primary sales and service support for SM and PIC managed asset programs by:

  • Responding to a variety of questions ranging in complexity
  • Assisting in solving administrative and issues
  • Providing guidance and recommendations on portfolio construction of client portfolios
  • Working with Advisors on establishing pricing and avoiding unprofitable pricing practices
  • Having a dedicated follow up process in place for program related questions, client concerns, proposals, and pricing
  • Communicating updates on the programs in a timely manner

6. Contributes to the overall success of Investment Solutions and other key areas by:

  • Establishing relationships with key partners such as the Client Solutions group, Wealth Management Consultants, external managers, 1832 Asset Management L.P., Jarislowsky, Fraser Limited and GPAG.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer service through routine engagement with the field
  • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings
  • Keeping abreast of trends and new ideas within the managed assets and fee-based industry as well as the regulatory environment
  • Participating in program initiatives and key projects

7. Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

8. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

9. Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Over 5 years of financial services experience is required
  • Strong level knowledge of ScotiaMcLeod and Private Investment Counsel managed asset programs and the Advisor channel is preferred
  • Previous sales related experience preferred
  • CSC or financial industry related designations (CIM, CFA, CIMA)
  • University degree is required
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) is required
  • Knowledge of Power BI is an asset
