Job Description - Interconnection Engineer


We are currently looking for a permanent Interconnection Engineer  to join our Energy Control Centre’s Renewable and Decarbonization Portfolio team as a Subject Matter Expert. Reporting to the Manager, Grid Operations and Security, you will contribute to the development of systems and processes designed to transform business operations to meet provincial and federal environmental policies seeking to phase out coal-fired generation by 2030. As the portfolio of projects reaches completion, this position will become part of the ongoing operations and sustainment team. This role is located at our Ragged Lake office in Halifax.

During the Project Implementation Phase, you will participate in solution design, development and implementation of technology and processes including automation of optimization, aggregation, prioritization, curtailment, dispatch, reconciliation, and settlement transactions with existing and future wind producers in Nova Scotia.

 

As a member of the Operations team, you will be responsible for managing and tracking interconnection contracts from start to finish according to the Generator Interconnection Procedures, Distribution Generator Interconnection Procedures, and the Market Rules. As the Interconnection Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to planning studies to maintain the reliability of the power system.

 

You will manage generator interconnection projects including initiation, planning, scheduling, procurement, and implementation. You will work closely with generator-interconnection customers to ensure that agreed-to milestone dates are met. You will also provide Engineering support for the System Operators during day-to-day operations as well as for storm support.

  • Graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 
  • Registered member of, or eligible for membership in, Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • You possess strong oral and written communication skills, a strong customer service ethic, good interpersonal skills, and can function effectively in a team environment. 
  • Ensure scope and schedule are achievable, change control processes are agreed upon and followed.
  • Self-starter with proven organizational and analytical skills. 
  • Strong computer skills and attention to detail. 
  • You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development. 
  • You must be available to support emergency power restoration work.
  • You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. 
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environment management system processes and initiatives.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems, and Generator Interconnection Procedures and or processes is considered an asset.
  • Electrical Project Management experience is considered an asset.
  • PMP certification is considered an asset.
