Job Description - Lumber Trader



You will work for a leading player in the forest products industry, committed to supplying high-quality lumber and wood-based commodities to meet the diverse needs of customers in North America. Job Description



We are recruiting for a skilled and motivated Lumber Trader to join the team in Montreal, Quebec. As a Lumber Trader, you will play a crucial role in managing and expanding our client's lumber trading activities. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and partners in the lumber industry, while also promoting sustainable practices and international trade.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales and Customer Management: Develop and manage a portfolio of clients, understanding their specific lumber product needs, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional service.

  • Supply Chain Management: Collaborate with suppliers to source quality lumber products, negotiate terms, and manage inventory effectively, while promoting sustainable forestry practices.

  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and market conditions to make informed trading decisions, including international trade dynamics.

  • Risk Management: Mitigate risks associated with lumber trading through sound financial analysis and decision-making, adhering to legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts with suppliers and customers, ensuring mutually beneficial agreements and compliance with sustainability certifications.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, contracts, and documentation related to lumber transactions, including sustainability reporting.

Qualifications

  • Post Secondary Education in Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory. Relevant experience will be considered.

  • This individual is comfortable and motivated by personal accountability that has specific performance measurements and by rewards for achieving sales objectives and results
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in sales or lumber trading, with a strong understanding of the lumber market.

  • Lumber Grading Certification (e.g., NHLA certification) is highly beneficial, but not required.

  • Knowledge of Sustainable Forestry Practices and Certification (e.g., FSC, SFI).

  • International Trade Experience is advantageous, including familiarity with trade regulations and currency exchange dynamics.

  • Proficiency in IT and Data Analysis tools for market forecasting and analysis.

  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English.
