Job Description - Mechanical Project Engineer

Based in Brandon, Manitoba, Koch Fertilizer Canada, ULC's operations have been producing agricultural fertilizer products since 1967. We synthesize and blend nitrogen, phosphate, and sulfur products with ammonia, which we market primarily in the prairie provinces of Canada and the northern United States. MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER Koch Fertilizer Canada, ULC is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to join the Project Engineering team to contribute to the organization's value creation capabilities. This role offers a fast-paced working environment and opportunities for career development within our growing organization! What You Will Do
  • Develop project scope, objectives, and goals align with organizational vision.
  • Prepare essential documentation, including Decision Making Frameworks (DMF) and economic justification, to secure project funding approval from management.
  • Collaborate with the corporate estimator or independently prepare the project cost estimate based on the scope of work and required resources.
  • Develop scope of work, equipment specification and work packages for vendors/contractors.
  • Diligently monitor project expenses to ensure compliance with allocated budgets.
  • Collaborate with project schedulers to create and maintain project schedule and work plans.
  • Take lead in identifying potential project risks in consultation with project team and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Perform quality control throughout the project to maintain standards, specifications, and relevant governing body regulatory requirements.
  • Provide engineering support to operational facilities as needed.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation criteria for equipment and technical supplier/contractor selection.
  • Actively promote safety by participating in safety training, adhering to safety policies, and integrating safety initiatives into project deliverables.
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders. Communicate with project owners to ensure their alignment to project goals.
The work environment you will be entering requires and includes:
  • Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Available for flexible hours based on job requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary breathing test/wear a gas mask-type respirator and PPE.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an engineering or technical position, focusing on engineering design, maintenance, and project management within a chemical or similar manufacturing environment.
  • B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Engineering design, project management and construction management experience are considered an asset.
  • P. Eng designation, or eligibility for registration in the province of Manitoba as a Professional.
  • Familiarity with ASME, CSA Codes and Environmental, Health, & Safety regulations.
  • Previous project experience in Fertilizer/chemical industry.
