Main Purpose and Function
The Planner I provides professional and technical services to support a wide range of projects in the Economic Development Planning group; Citywide and Regional Planning . The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the City’s Business Improvement Areas and small business support programs. The position is also responsible for providing policy advice on rezoning and development applications and for providing research and data services for the broader team.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience independently developing and implementing community and stakeholder engagement programs, drafting policy, analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, communicating complex ideas, working with interdisciplinary project teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
This position reports to a Planner II with support and oversight from a Senior Planner. The position will work collaboratively with colleagues across City Departments. The position will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners.

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
