Job Description - Project Manager, Marketing & Communications

Role Overview Reporting to the Manager, Creative Services, the Project Manager, Marketing & Communications leads the development and coordination of marketing and communications projects across all Marketing, Brand, Digital and Communication teams with the purpose of developing a synchronized and accelerated cadence of successful deliverables that motivates external supporters and delights internal clients. The Project Manager will play a crucial role in an upcoming web redesign project, collaborating closely with the Executive Director, Digital Transformation. The focus will be on leveraging technical solutions to establish and reinforce the brand through cutting-edge web design and compelling creative content. In this project management role, you will lead, coach, and improve the disciplined agile delivery of Marketing and Communications’ ways of working for projects and programs to guide and optimize continuous improvement delivery, aligned to metrics of success. In this role, you will oversee the project lifecycle, from initiation through to completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. You will also lead, coach and improve the agile delivery process within the Marketing and Communications teams, fostering continuous improvement and alignment with success metrics. Location: 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Flexible work agreement policy in place allowing employees to work on a hybrid schedule, working remotely and with the expectation of being in-office a minimum of one day a week. This Role Includes, But Not Limited To
  • Lead the project management of complex technical projects, focusing on the enhancement of the digital ecosystem, including web design, branding, and technology platform integration.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure the seamless integration of external services into project plans.
  • Develop new or evolve current marketing and communications cadences to improve related metrics, such as workflows and service level agreements of delivery.
  • Strategize and proactively recommend new opportunities and improvements of existing for marketing and communicating projects across various channels to optimize for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Acts in a shared services capacity to the Marketing and Communications teams to facilitate support requests from across the full organization, building inspiring creative briefs, deconstructing into actionable work packages, and orchestrating delivery – internally or externally - of development, and closing the loop with cadence feedback.
  • Lead, organize, and disseminate marketing and communication internal information through existing or new sharing-platform(s) to increase ease of use and value to all internal stakeholders; if needed, create, and maintain internal workflows, digital forms, dashboards, and develop related training/training materials for their use.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to understand stakeholder segments and go-to-market targets, ensuring assets through mapping take a stakeholder centric approach.
  • Develop new and employ existing organizational adopted tools and best practices to facilitate process improvement efforts and contribute to the achievement of strategic goals.
  • Represents the team in planning for cross-functional marketing and communication activities across all areas of the organization and leads the cross-organizational integration of marketing and communications collaborative calendar.
  • Maintain an on-going understanding of business, campaign, and project objectives to infuse innovation, efficiency, and effectiveness of creative and channel content planning.
  • Develop and maintain a through and current knowledge of the charity health market in which Diabetes Canada operates, with an eye to the marketing and communications objectives and fundraising goals.
  • Foster a highly collaborative marketing and communications environment while embracing the plans and processes of the wider organization.
  • Works alongside our agencies and vendors to deliver and execute within set cadences
  • Deliver marketing and communications support and share learnings to other business units on an ongoing basis to integrate the role of marketing and in delivering organizational goals.
  • Model and support a friendly, collaborative approach, demonstrating agility, openness, and building confidence for the Marketing and Communications teams across the organization.
  • Promote, model, mentor, and evolve Agile / Scrum / Kanban/ SAFe / LEAN principles across the Marketing and Communication teams.
The Ideal Candidate Possesses
  • University or college undergraduate degree in a marketing and communications related field.
  • Certification(s) in project management (PMP), LEAN, and/or agile, (DASM, DASSM, SAFe, Advanced scrum master, Scrum Master, Green/Black Six Sigma Belt).
  • 5+ years experience in managing creative, go-to-market campaigns and digital projects.
  • 5+ years experience working in Waterfall, LEAN, and/or Agile frameworks and using related technologies and platforms.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to present information in an organized, logical, and effective manner to a wide variety of audiences including senior leadership.
  • Strong coaching skills with a proven ability to train and develop talent at multiple levels through both direct and indirect influence.
  • Strong technical acumen, coupled with strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to execute on marketing and communications strategic direction to diverse leaders, influence key stakeholders, and collaborate with teams to organize, coordinate, and deliver complex campaigns as well as a high-volume of tasks.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, be creative and a willingness to take calculated risks.
  • Exceptional skills at building relationships, collaborating with others, and providing a supportive environment to foster innovative thinking.
  • Proven ability to guide subject matter experts through campaign creation, requirements gathering, planning, design, development, testing, and support phases.
  • Experience with leading and coaching teams through Agile ceremonies such as Sprint planning, Sprint Demo’s, System Demos, Program Increment planning (PI Planning), Inspect and Adapt.
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector an asset.
