Salary: $32/hr - $38/hr

The role of Quality Engineer offers an opportunity to contribute to the company's strategic goal of assuring and improving product quality from cradle to grave thereby keeping the service cost as low as reasonably possible. The Quality Engineer will work cross-functionally with other engineers from the Product Development team and Manufacturing team to deliver world-class products for the company. As Quality Engineer, you will lead and coordinate quality aspects of VMAC products through a hands-on approach.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Require a range of competencies; from inspecting products, mechanical & electrical items, and components to understanding the test process and its outputs in order to work with the appropriate teams and provide sufficient information to achieve effective improvements.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, instructions, and processes to create accurate processes, reliable recommendations, and root cause analysis of issues that impact product quality and ensure they do not continue into production.
  • Work hands-on with the R&D, Engineering, and Production teams.
  • Conduct annual MSAs (Measurement System Analysis) studies on all measurements methods used to verify parts special characteristics.
  • Initial SPC studies and quality analysis for new programs in preparation for Customer PPAP and annual validations; provide action plans as required and follow up accordingly.
  • Perform product and component review by working with cross functional teams and become aware of all requirements relating to the specific products under review.
  • Responsible for working with relevant departments to resolve all issues related to quality and reliability.
  • Lead, coordinate, and investigate internal/external quality issues throughout all stages of the product.
  • Work with stakeholders and collaborate with other engineers to implement robust corrective actions through ECN release as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality standards.
  • Support warranty evaluation in accordance with company procedure to identify the root cause of issues.
  • Monitor and report quality-related key performance indicators including scrap monitoring, non-conformances, corrective actions, rework levels, parts per million (PPM) figures etc.
  • Provide support for product development and NPI, including technical benchmarking, capability assessments, compliances reviews, and risk assessments of potential sources of supply.
  • Ensure products being manufactured to conform to all engineering, customer, and manufacturing standards.
  • Collaborate with the development team to develop product reliability and quality goals for products.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and test engineering for improvement of quality outputs.
  • Perform process and machine capability studies to determine the ability to produce parts within specified limits consistently.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams in the development of new products or changes related to current products in meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system such as IATF16949/ISO9001.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Obtain university degree or college diploma; preferably Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of relevant industry work experience.
  • Sound understanding and working knowledge of mechanical design and components considered an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation / APEGBC membership considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 / ISO 14001 / ISO 9001 standards considered an asset.
  • Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) considered an asset.
  • CQE and Lean Manufacturing skills and experience considered an asset.
