Job Description - Quality Supervisor

BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. is currently seeking a Supervisor. 

 

JOB PURPOSE:

The Quality Supervisor will provide direction and assistance to the Fuel Manufacturing Group, in order to meet Business Quality objectives.

 

JOB STRUCTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS:

The Quality Supervisor will report into the Quality Manager. The Quality Supervisor will be responsible for compliance communication to the QA Manager. Communication is required to customer & external organizations to support QA activities.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Perform responsibilities documented in the QA Program Policies & Procedures both at the Fuel Assembly level and Business Management System level.
  • Develop and maintain general knowledge of existing and proposed regulations. Provide technical guidance to employees and management.
  • Define employee training needs and select training tools. Develop, deliver, or coordinate training and/or participate in the selection of qualified individuals to deliver training and verify delivery of training as per the training program.
  • Support in-house projects/initiatives by assisting Project leads.
  • Support QA programs and record keeping systems (i.e. Gensuite, Billing Sytem, MLR, JDE Learning Management System) for worker training, routine tasks, worker concerns, action items and event reporting.
  • Updating QA procedures and other QA program documentation as required. 
  • Participate in Material Review Boards.
  • Support the Management of Change program for the Fuel Assembly by reviewing Fuel Assembly Change Control Notices and ensuring QA compliance to related actions are completed as per program requirements.
  • Participate in the issue resolution process related to quality investigations; develop detailed reports based on root cause analysis, recommend solutions, assist in implementation of corrective actions, follow-up where required.
  • Active involvement and/or leadership of various committees on-site (i.e. Policy Committee, Workplace Safety Committee, Ergonomics Committee)..
  • Assist with business proposals by collecting relevant QA information.
  • Interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside of the business (i.e. Regulators).
  • Assist with the maintenance of QA program software.
  • Promote various safety initiatives and demonstrate a “safety first” mindset.
  • Provide QA Orientation training for all new hires and ensure the QA Orientation program is kept up-to-date.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Set a good example and enforce safe work practices.
  • Ensure that laboratory safety equipment and personal protective equipment are available, in proper working order, and appropriate for the work being conducted.
  • Take an active role in identifying safety deficiencies within the lab and be a key contributor in resolving identified opportunities.
  • Ensure laboratory personnel receive the appropriate training in accordance with established job specific training requirements.
  • Ensure the Laboratory and equipment is functional and ready for use as required to support daily routine shop operations.
  • Initiate purchase requests for lab consumables & equipment as required.
  • Coordinate NF Lab Technician coverage for laboratory support to meet production needs and project commitments. This includes scheduling and vacation approvals/coverage.
  • Weekly review & approval of employee timecards.
  • Prioritize & Monitor Laboratory PM’s.
  • Schedule non-routine Metlab requests for timely completion including internal/external Lab Work Requests, NFTO testing requirements, traveler requests, monthly testing. In addition, direct work as required to the NF Lab technicians to ensure efficient and effective use of time.
  • Lead NF laboratory technicians in troubleshooting/resolving laboratory equipment issues.
  • Identify, plan & drive laboratory process improvement initiatives, cost-savings, equipment upgrades, etc...
  • Mentor and assist NF Lab technicians to ensure all knowledge, lessons Learned, and experiences are shared and learned from.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AS REQUIRED

 

  • Conduct internal audits and self-assessments for the site, and for other BWXT sites.
  • Support the site regulatory requirements under the CSNC operating license, including but not limited to;
    • Inspections 
    • Licensed activity quality assurance program 
    • Support site's emergency response team.
    • Support and develop other site programs and initiatives as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Post-secondary education in a related field or minimum 4 years direct QA experience preferably in a Quality Laboratory setting. 
  • Experience in the operation & troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation would be an asset. Specifically experience with gas chromatography, inert gas fusion (Leco), optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy & metallurgical (NDT & DT) analysis techniques.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player with excellent written and verbal Communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable QA regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge of Canada Labour Code Part II.
  • Hands-on problem solver.
  • Proficient with MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Prior experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Must be available for on-call periods.

 

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $86,000 and $132,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
