The Opportunity:

Postmedia is looking for a Senior Editor, News Analytics to collaborate with strategic leaders and our journalists on building a reader-driven culture in our newsrooms. This candidate will work with newsrooms to set goals across a variety of initiatives, use data to suggest new approaches, and teach our newsrooms best practices for using analytics in decision making.  

This role is a little bit of everything: There is opportunity to work on transformation strategy, content development and leadership initiatives. There is a strong learning culture within our organization, and this candidate will also play an important role in implementing change and supporting an environment of experimentation.

What you’ll do:

• Act as the primary point of contact between our analytics department and newsrooms
• Advocate for data-driven approaches to inform story decisions, improve page views and grow reader engagement.
• Work with newsrooms to develop a data culture; help make journalists aware of the value of data and how it can support their work.
• Develop and lead workshops on how to use data to make decisions.
• Help set and monitor KPIs and dashboards.
• Build and monitor reports with key performance indicators and results
• Analyze audience data, identify trends, and provide timely recommendations that contribute to informed journalistic decisions
• Write clear and concise memos and strategic briefs on data-informed opportunities for newsrooms

Who you are:

• You have a minimum of least five years of newsroom experience, with knowledge of analytics and audience strategy.
• You are confident in your abilities to dig deep into the numbers - you thrive in a world of spreadsheets
• You understand how to use data to troubleshoot or highlight new opportunities.
• You are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders in high-pressure situations.
• You are a collaborative teammate who is not afraid of trying new things or having difficult conversations.
• You believe in a people-driven culture, supported by data.
