About the Job

Searidge Technologies, a global leader and preferred partner for Remote Tower and Digital Airport solutions is currently recruiting for a Senior System Engineer who is ready to work in a fast pace, dynamic environment. It is a high energy position which requires a winning can-do attitude. The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and enforcing architectural and technical standards across projects. Reporting to the EVP of Operations and working closely with the VP of Technology, Software Development Leads and Chief Architect to contribute to the organization's strategic direction. The Sr. Systems Engineer shall ensure the approach meets the highest level of safety and security while providing a valuable solution that is aligned to the needs of our customers (Airport and ANSP).

Responsibilities

  • Requirements Management: Use the proven best practices for systems engineering with a focus on ensuring that all system requirements are accurately captured, clearly defined, and thoroughly tested throughout the development process.
  • System Design: Develop system architecture, design system components, and create system models to ensure that the overall system meets performance, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Integration: Oversee the integration of different components, subsystems, or modules to form a cohesive system that functions as intended.
  • Verification and Validation: Plan, execute, and evaluate the testing of the system to ensure it meets the defined requirements and performs as expected. This includes developing test plans, conducting tests, and analyzing test results.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and find root cause to solve challenging technical issues that junior team members cannot resolve due to their complexity. Implement corrective actions, processes, training or mentoring to improve team response to complex issues.
  • Configuration Management: Manage and control changes to the system throughout its lifecycle, ensuring that the system remains consistent and well-documented.
  • Risk Management: Identify, analyze, and mitigate potential risks associated with the system's development, implementation, and operation.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain thorough documentation for the system, including requirements, design, test plans, and user manuals, to facilitate communication and collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance and guidance to users, customers, and other stakeholders throughout the system lifecycle, troubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders within the organization, including product management, operations, sales, and marketing. Promote effective collaboration by encouraging team members to analyze problems collectively, challenge assumptions, explore different perspectives, and guide the team towards consensus-based decisions. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor and evaluate the system's performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to optimize efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in setting up and maintaining quality assurance processes and standard operating procedures, requirements management, tracking and validation, automated testing, and other best practices to ensure the deliverables quality and reliability.
  • Standards and Safety: Thorough understanding and the ability to enforce safety with respect to systems engineering best practices / methodology.

 
Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in aviation system engineering, computer systems engineering, systems engineering and analysis or related field. A post secondary degree in business administration, engineering or project management is beneficial.
  • At least 7-10 years delivering computer-based solutions and systems development/integration projects, ideally in the aviation sector and involving business-critical real-time/on-line systems with hands-on technical work in significant projects.
  • A solid knowledge of Windows, UNIX /Linux based environments and networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP).
  • Must possess key leadership skills that are instrumental for managing / mentoring Jr. System Engineers with their day-to-day activities. Must demonstrate the emotional intelligence that is necessary to respond to various situations as well as the ability to build strong relationships, encourage open dialogue, promote collaboration, inspire, and motivate the team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This includes being able to explain complex technical concepts in a way that non-technical people can understand.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions, solve complex problems, and guide the team towards successful outcomes. Apply critical thinking to proactively address challenges, identify project vulnerabilities, identify potential failure points, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and minimize the impact on project success.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are deemed as beneficial.
